Disney and More has posted the full video of the new Soaring ride. Apparently they changed the name from Soarin' to Soaring for the SDL version, while in the US it will be called Soarin' Around the World. http://disneyandmore.blogspot.co.at/2016/05/soaring-around-world-over-horizon-full.html I think they have taken the video from the 90 minutes video that was posted yesterday.
I like that they were able to rework the original musical theme for the new film. I'm so familiar with the old one that it will take a while to get used to the new version though. It's interesting that the last couple scenes appear to be a direct copy (though reorchestrated) of the original ending, while the early scenes are very different and more cinematic I'm still unimpressed by the reliance on CGI elements to liven up the shots. The hangglider and Tinkerbell in the original film always seemed gimmicky (and the CGI aged poorly), so I'm disappointed to see so much of it here. Why not let the settings speak for themselves? I'm also not a fan of the flash transitions from one location to the next which only seems to draw attention to the cuts, but that may work better in person I'm curious if this is the final ending for SDL, or if they'll get a flyover of the park at some point once construction is complete. With how quickly the Shanghai skyline changes, it will likely need to be updated pretty regularly. The US parks had their scenes filmed about 2 years ago, so I'll be excited to see how those look
I don't think that the CGI elements are that bad, since they fit the scenery. In Sydney we have the plane, in Africa there's the elephant and then I remember the whale with the splash. I like how this helps the transition of the scenes. I also liked Soarin' Over California a lot, it's still one of Disney's best attractions, but it was just one scene after another.
I'll admit I skimmed it rather than watching it all since I hope to experience it myself later in the US. But it seems to feature landmarks more than Soarin of California did. Is that correct? That's probably a given since limiting to California has fewer landmarks to choose from and people might not recognize India if you're not showing the Taj Mahal or China without the Great Wall. But I do like how the old version shows many places in California (a state I'm admittedly very familiar with) via its natural self rather than the things that have been built there. But I could be wrong since I haven't watched it all nor really cataloged natural vs. man made in the current version. Just a sense I got when skimming through. Doobie.
Glad that an update has been produced. And that the original Jerry Goldsmith score was redone. I remember people here talking about the lack of transitions between scenes for 'Soarin' Over California.' Seeing this, with the added CGI things, makes the whole thing seem fake. Part of the thrill is realizing that it's filmed footage of actual locations.
I rode the new version at California Adventure four times in July. It's far superior to the original versions and all the things which seem like shortcomings in watching a YouTube video didn't exist for me in experiencing it live.
