Walt Disney World's Ellen DeGeneres ride might soon be going the way of the dinosaur. Ellen's Energy Adventure, which has operated in one form or another for more than three decades at Disney's EPCOT theme park, will soon be pushed aside for a planned attraction based on the popular Disney/Marvel movie "Guardians of the Galaxy," according to unconfirmed rumors that started making the rounds Thursday (June 30) online. Disney has yet to confirm or comment on the report, but according to WDW News Today, Ellen's Energy Adventure -- an approximately 40-minute ride and movie at EPCOT in which guests travel back in time with DeGeneres and Bill Nye the Science Guy to learn about Earth's energy sources -- could close as early as this fall. Is Disney's EPCOT dumping Ellen DeGeneres for 'Guardians of the Galaxy'?
Even though I don't understand using 'Guardians of the Galaxy' in the 'Universe of Energy', I'm all for dumping the Ellen overlay. It looks so outdated and silly. Who at WDI is in charge of EPCOT? And what are they smoking?
Here's hoping. Where you're in the attraction and 'suddenly something goes wrong.' Can it please include large movie screens and a Kuka Arm mechanism?
I've always liked Ellen's Energy Adventure. It combines a genuinely funny stand-up comic, Jeopardy!, Bill Nye, a clever, creative presentation of science, and my all-time favorite ride system. In fact, I think it may be up there with CoP and GMR among the attractions I go out of my way to get to more than once per WDW vacation.
Ellen's Energy Adventure was a fun ride. We rode that multiple times when we were at Epcot. It was just cool when the theater started to move pass the dinos and the science part was well presented. My kids would love that ride now.
The problem is that the film is so dated that it's like Ellen's kid sister.. It feels tired and has become a distraction.
I whole heartedly agree w/ you @Jim in Merced CA! I'm just afraid that if they get rid of it that it's going to be another empty pavilion that is being wasted. They definitely need to revamp this one.
True, those scenes are dated. It's based on her show before she came out. Are we really suppose to believe she lives in that apartment anymore? She looks very different now. However, Jamie Lee Curtis still looks hot.
I'm kind of split in my thoughts on this. The first time I experienced UoE I absolutely loved it. That OMG moment when the theater split into sections and started moving forward was outstanding. I've always enjoyed the AA dinos... still do. The films have become dated though, and should be shortened. Make the attraction a 20-25 minute experience instead of a 40 minute one. There is so much to do at Epcot it is hard to devote 40 minutes to just one attraction. I enjoyed the Guardians of the Galaxy film a great deal, but if you put them into a Future World thrill attraction you have driven the final stake through Epcot's heart.
