That does sound strange swimming in a lake after a day of skiing. I've often gone into an outdoor heated pool (or Jacuzzi) after skiing, but getting into a natural body of water would be really different. How cold was it while you were skiing? I'm trying to figure out if I need to pack for winter-like temperatures, or if several layers of lighter clothes could be enough

I saw some mentions of Postbus when I was looking at the places near Innsbruck, but hadn't considered it to get to Zermatt. I was planning on taking the night train to Zurich and transferring from there (with another transfer at Visp), but doing bus for part of it may make for a more direct route

I made a mistake. I confused Zermatt with a town in Austria. So I'm not sure if going from Innsbruck to Zermatt is an option, since it's in Switzerland.

Here's the postbus website, but I don't think there are any connections to Zermatt.

We did summer skiing in July at the Kitzsteinhorn glacier and nearby there's lake Zell, which is a popular summer destination. The summer ski season usually runs until the end of July and July is usually very warm over here, so swimming was fine. On top of the glacier (about 3000m) it was of course colder, but there were times I only used a t-shirt.

We managed to find a good deal at the Hotel Cheyenne and switched our reservation for the DLP leg of the trip! Once taxes and fees were added, it actually wasn't quite as good of a deal as we initially thought, but we've learned with previous race weekends that location is key. Plus, I've always wanted to stay at the Cheyenne, so I'm excited that we'll finally have the chance. It even looks like we'll be in the un-refurbished section, so I'll get to see it before it turns into Woody's Dream Home

I've also been starting to have weird dreams about this trip already. In the most recent one, I did a terrible job of packing my suitcase (all shirts, no pants) which then caused us to re-enact one of my favorite movie montages of all time. The clothes weren't quite as dated as these, but were every bit as ridiculous

Are the old rooms cheaper than the refurbished ones?

    What a strange dream :D

I have no idea. The rooms were broken down into Buffalo and Rio Grande categories, both of which were the same price on Hotels.com. The new rooms are in the Texas category, which didn't even show up, so perhaps it's only for people who book directly through DLP (and since we don't want the whole vacation package, that's not really an option for us)
Indeed! I typically don't remember my dreams at all, but I've gotten some really interesting ones in recent weeks. I can't tell if that means I'm not getting enough sleep, or I'm getting too much sleep! (probably not enough)

I didn't know that it is possible to book Disney hotel rooms without park tickets online. Until now we always had to call.

I didn't either, but I decided to check the 3rd party sites on a whim, and they were showing up in all of them (Hotels.com, Expedia, Travelocity, etc). It wasn't the best deal I've ever gotten (not bad though), but it sure was a lot easier than calling to make the reservation, especially since there's a lot of additional difficulty in calling from the US where nobody has international call in their phone plan

Yeah, I've seen them on Expedia though I don't think I've ever booked that way before.

Good to know since we might go to DLP in September or October.

We booked our trip to Paris through Expedia, and stayed at one of the good neighbor hotels last year. We were able to purchase park tickets separately without any trouble.

We recently booked our trip to DLP, but weren't able to book the Disney hotels on Booking.com or Expedia. We are again staying at the Relais Spa Chessy.

When exactly are you visiting DLP? I think we willnot be there at the same time like you, since we will be going mid September.

We'll there September 23-26, the last weekend of the month. Sounds like we'll just miss each other!

Thanks for all the help everybody! I leave tomorrow and still have a ton of last-minute things to take care of, but I'm really excited for this trip. Work has been especially tough the last couple weeks (in part because I'll be gone for a while), so I'm really looking forward to getting out and doing something completely different for a while

Just wanted to check in quickly. DLP was a lot of fun; the attraction closures definitely made the crowds heavier during the day, but it lightened up by 5-6pm both days. The races were a lot of fun, and even did some things better than the US event

We're in Munich now, getting ready to head over for our last day at Oktoberfest, before moving on to Salzburg tomorrow morning

We just arrived and are getting settled at the hotel now. I think our plan for today is to visit the Festung Hohensalzburg, and then maybe the Dom and Neue Residenz depending how much time we have, and generally exploring the Altstadt

Tomorrow we're doing one of the cheesy Sound of Music tours and a salt mine tour, so those should be fun. We're heading to Vienna tomorrow night

May I ask, at which hotel are you staying in Salzburg?

Hopefully you had a good time today, at least the weather was very lovely.

Are you taking the train to Vienna, or the bus, or did you rent a car?

We had a good time today. The weather was great, and it wasn't too crowded in the tourist areas. We ended up going to the marionette theater tonight to see the Nutcracker, which was a lot of fun, followed by dessert at the Hotel Sacher

We're staying at the Goldenes Theaterhotel, which is about a 10 minute walk to the Altstadt along Schallmooser Hauptstrasse

We're taking the train to Vienna. There is a lot of time on trains this trip, but it seems like the easiest way and most of the trips are pretty scenic. I remember going past lots of small villages with baroque churches the last time I travelled between Salzburg and Vienna
