With a $50.1M global weekend on Finding Dory as well as added coin from its other holdovers, Disney has pushed past the $5B worldwide box office milestone in record time. Last year, the crown belonged to Universal as Jurassic World stomped it to $5B+ on July 17. The Mouse also now has bragging rights to the fastest speed to $3B internationally, getting there on July 6 and just beating Universal’s previous $3B offshore record set on July 8, 2015.

The estimated cumes for The Walt Disney Studios are currently $5.02B global and $3.05B international. Domestic is closing in on $2B with $1.97B as of today. This is the second time the studio has hit $5B worldwide; its first time to the mark was last year on December 20.

Certainly an impressive number, both for global and domestic, but just imagine how much quicker they could have hit $5B if Alice and BFG hadn't both been duds.

There are still several heavy hitters to come later this year (along with Pete's Dragon which looks to be another flop), so it will be interesting to see what the yearly total is. Given that last year reached $5B in December, this year is sure to destroy that record

That's quite an achievement. Star Wars Rogue One and Moana will certainly increase the number.

I agree with @FerretAfros that Pete's Dragon will be a flop. Honestly I was a bit surprised that Alice and The BFG bombed so badly. I didn't expect huge numbers at the box office, but the Steven Spielberg movie won't hurt that much, because it's only a Disney movie in the US.

And yet, Disney stock price is inconsistent and wonky.
