Hey everyone! This is my first thread on here, so I wanted to ask about something close to my heart and that is extinct attractions! I'm on the younger side and there are so many attractions that I never got to experience, so recently I've been doing a lot of research and writing about them. I love that there is always change at Disneyland, but I try to remember all those attractions that came before, especially the ones that were before my time. Anyway, I was curious as to which Walt Disney World attractions you guys missed the most! Personally, I wish I had had the chance to experience the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter! It always sound so sppoky and I wish I could've seen it in person! So yeah, which ones did you guys miss??
I've experienced relatively few extinct WDW attractions, but as soon as I started thinking about it Alien Encounter jumped to the top of my list. It was just so different from anything else in the park that it really stood out as being bold. The watered-down Stitch version replicates a lot of the general concept, but manages to be too scary for small kids and not scary enough for adults, making it a pretty terrible attraction all around Another favorite, though the memories are hazier, was the original Journey Into Imagination. Even as a kid I was blown away by the technical aspects of the opening turntable scene, and there were just so many neat effects throughout. The second version was a clear step down, but along with HISTA is created a cohesive vision for the pavilion, regardless of how good that vision might be. The current version keeps the worst elements of the second, removes any potentially good ones, and inserts an annoying iteration of Figment; it's actually a little depressing to ride and think about what came before it
I completely agree with Journey! For some reason, I am obsessed with attractions that no one like though, so I still deal with Figment! I try to find the best in every attraction, but it certainly is a step down. I just wish we still had Dreamfinder.
I have to agree w/ you guys about Journey too. I remember the ride when it still had Dreamfinder in it. It seemed much more magical...more about imagination...hmmmm...sensing a bit of a trend there. I was allowed one stuffed animal per Disney vacation, and to this day 20+ years later I still have my Figment...can't say I have many of the others though.
I miss EPCOT Center and my first visit in spring of 1986. The original versions of: - Spaceship Earth - World of Motion - Universe of Energy - Horizons - The Land - Journey Into Imagination "Sigh"
Mr Toad's Wild Ride - my favorite ride that I now have to fly from the East Coast to Disneyland if I want to ride it.
What about the Explorer's Club in Downtown Disney? That place was sooo much fun! KUNGALOOSH!! It would be an easy tie-in to Up...just sayin'...
Uh, I think you must mean Adventurers Club. Among the attractions that have transferred to "YesterWDW," I miss Adventurers (my favorite Library show was Samantha's Cabaret, all the more because I only got to see it once), Body Wars, Timekeeper, and the original Animation, with the brief lecture from an actual working animator. And even though I'm glad the MSEP is still running somewhere (I found Paint the Night to be a big disappointment), I also think that SpectroMagic was a much better fit for WDW-MK. Living on the West Coast, there are WDW attractions I miss even though they're still there (albeit hit-or-miss, and/or on the way out). Attractions like Ellen's Energy Adventure, GMR, and CoP.
The attractions I miss most are Horizons at Epcot and Toad at the MK. For some reason I was never a huge fan of the original Journey into Imagination that many are. It was better than what's there now, but that doesn't say much.
I piloted the Mike Fink Keel Boats in Summer of 1986. Cool because we really drove them and were not on a track.
