From how the boards have gone back to a trickle of posts per day, I don't think Doobie has the time to admin. At least the spam is a trickle, too.
I think the problem is that (unlike, say, TrekBBS, Fountain Pen Network, or the PIPORG-L List Server) Laughingplace's board is apparently set up to grant posting privileges immediately, thereby allowing spammers to create sock-puppets with impunity, and post spam before anybody knows they're there.
Yes, list servers still exist. PIPORG-L and its sister list HPSCHD-L are hosted (among dozens of other Lists) by the University of Iowa, for serious email discussion of organs and harpsichords, respectively. Midrange.com hosts a number of list servers that allow members of the IBM Midrange Systems community to help each other via email. The Orange County Linux User Group has a list server, and so does the Apache Tomcat web server community.
Apparently the problem isn't fixable. Updating the boards gave these boards new life, but the spam is about to kill them again. I'm about to give up. It's out of control.
Bumping this in front of all of the insane amount of spam. It's sad that I don't really read much on these forums anymore because of all of these ads.
I find it funny how they attack the Disney Dining board more than any other board. Does anyone really post here?
