We always wanted to see the Lion King musical, but unfortunately last year we didn't get tickets in London. However this year we will finally see it as we just purchased the tickets for the Lion King in Hamburg. The only downside is, that is in German instead of English. I didn't realize that production is still running! Considering the relatively-few people who speak German, I never would have expected it to still be going 15 years later I really enjoyed it when I saw the US tour several years ago. IMO the best parts were the singing in African languages (Swahili?), which I assume would be the same for all productions. I hope you enjoy it!
It's still very popular and the shows still sell out quickly. I'm sure we will enjoy it, because we love the movie and like musicals.
Today is an official holiday in Austria and so that meant we had a long weekend. We used that long weekend for a short trip to Hamburg and so Friday after work we flew from Salzburg to Hamburg, where we spent a fantastic weekend. We just returned from the airport. The highlight was of course the Lion King Musical. The musical runs since 2001 in the harbour of Hamburg with eight showings per week and it's baiscally sold out every day. All I can say, it was amazing, truly fantastic. The cast was great, the music is so beautiful and it transported my wife and me back to our childhood. Lion King was the movie I have seen the most in all my life and the musical brought back all the emotions from back then. Maybe it was the best musical I've ever seen. However, we have seen some musicals, like Mary Poppins, in Vienna and there the atmosphere was better. There's just a difference if you see a musical in a two hundred year old theatre or in a modern one. Nonetheless the musical was fantastic and we can't wait to see it again.
Thanks. Yes, we enjoyed it a lot and had a great time in Hamburg. If you are interested here are some pics. Traveling: Hamburg
I didn't realize that Hamburg had such nice architecture. As a port, I figured it was a lot of utilitarian structures, but it looks like there are a lot of charming old buildings (Spiecherstadt looks especially nice) and grand modern designs It surprised me that the monument had so much graffiti on it, since everything else appears to be very well maintained The model railway looks really neat. I could definitely get lost for hours checking out something like that! If I had unlimited time (and money, and space...) I would love to build something like that of my own some day Glad you had a nice trip!
Hamburg looks really nice, because it combines old and new architecture. Currently they are working on a whole new area with great modern architecture. As for the monument, it will get renovated next year, so I guess that's why they don't care about it at the moment.
