The latest rumor in the Disney theme park rumor mill claims that the Lilo & Stitch-themed Stitch’s Great Escape! attraction in Walt Disney World resort’s the Magic Kingdom could be replaced with a virtual reality simulation ride based on Walt Disney Animation’s Wreck-It Ralph. Disney theme park insider Jim Hill talked about the rumor on the latest Unofficial Guide’s Disney Dish podcast. Hill says that the story of a Wreck-It Ralph ride is nothing new, relaying a 2014 story of overhearing legendary Walt Disney Imagineer Tony Baxter talking about the team developing a Sugar Rush racing game for Disney parks. According to Hill, this is what many insiders believe will be replacing Stitch’s Great Escape! in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. Rumor: VR Wreck It Ralph Ride Coming To Disney World
'Alien Encounter' was one of the worst theme park attractions ever. 'Stitch' was just a skosh better - but not much.
Stitch's Great Escape is one of the worst attractions ever created. I'm not sure that Wreck-it-Ralph is a good fit for Tomorrowland (to say it lightly) nor do I feel like we need another simulator, but at this point nearly anything would be an improvement. I can't believe SGE has been allowed to run for this long, considering its extremely low guest satisfaction ratings; even in WDW's own Trip Advisor-like website (which "curates" comments, much like the Disney Parks Blog) the reviews are brutal I liked Alien Encounter. Sure, it was designed to be scary (and gave appropriate warning to keep small kids away), but it did a good job with it. I also thought the old preshow with SiR and Skippy was a lot more impressive than the current one
I'm going to attempt to remain optimistic on this one because Wreck-It Ralph is one of my favorite movies. I never got to experience Alien Encounter, but I did Stitch once and that was enough for me.
They could just replace Stitch with a huge restroom in that space and it would be an enormous improvement!!
