Ted Cruz is slime, but at least he stands by his principles

I know Scalia is dead, but has he started to mold already?

 

I think he was already moldy.

Seriously, that is the kind of thinking/rationalizing that keeps me awake nights. Can you imagine a Supreme Court stacked with Scalias. I can't even go there.

 

I know this is really grammar nit-picky, and perhaps even a bit archaic (but then I'm older than dirt). But shouldn't Cruz have used "mould" instead of "mold" in that sentence?

 

I got out my archaic dictionary, last revised 1924, and it has mold and mould as synonymous. My spell checker does not even recognize mould as there is a squiggly line under it.
I then went to the expert, my son the English major and dictionary connoisseur, and he said, "Only if one is British or maybe Australian."
(I was raised by school teachers and feel compelled to check these things out.) OOPS! Ended a sentence in a preposition. Sorry Mom.

 

I'd learned (who knows where) that mold was the stuff that grows from moisture and that mould was to make something in the likeness of something else.

 

Calling Ted Cruz a weasel is a terrible insult. To weasels.
