This thread is for discussion of the new Star Wars rides at Disneyland. What do you think of the latest Miceage news that the Stormtrooper Battle Escape ride will have multiple levels and people will get on the ride and then off and then back on again multiple times all while under fire from stromtroopers. Sounds like there could be some good mazes to wonder through. I wonder how they will get handicapped people on and off the ride and keep the line flowing. There is suppose to be over 200 AA figures including very large ones. The Falcon ride will have multiple rooms where you learn to fly the Falcon before finally getting to the ride where you could end up crashing the ship. It also sounds like some of the queues from Universal Studios where you move from room to room before getting to the ride. Disneyland Rumor Update
Getting in and out of multiple ride vehicles would certainly be different... but as a practical matter I'm not sure. I'm also concerned about a too-low capacity. Usual caveat - it's all just rumors.
Honestly I'm not a big fan of mutiple pre-shows. It sounds like a capacity nightmare and that guests are forced to spend too much time there. I'm also not sure guest might be happy to take too much control of the attraction.
From what I am hearing now, Micechat has some rather old information on the changing ride vehicles. Plans have changed but I'm not sure how.
I'm not a big fan of the interactive attraction concept where I'm forced to solve issues on the Millennium Falcon with Gary from Arlington Heights. Don't you have to do things like that on Mission:Space?
That's true. You have to push the button in time or the computer does it for you. Just a little bit of interactivity. It sounds like now, the queue and preshow will have a combination of queue and ride before you get to main ride. This is similar to old Epcot type rides like the Living Seas. There you go to a preshow movie, then to the omnimovers. Then your at Sea Base Alpha. Finally you have to take the hydrolaters to get out.
Some interaction, like in Mission Space, would be fine by me, but I'm also not a fan of solving problems to move along in the ride. I just want a thrilling and highly themed SW ride.
I hope that you don't have to rely on other guests cooperation to do anything... Some unlucky family from Des Moines would get stuck with someone riding it for the millionth time trying to troll the ride.
Battle Escape (I do hope that they change the name), Does sound very interesting. The show building is roughly double the size is Pirates and then you consider that it’s going to have two floors, that is a lot of show space. The idea of leaving the vehicles in the middle of the attraction does strike me as being very impractical especially when you consider how much time and safety goes into just generally loading and unloading. But I will also say that I am so looking forward to this one. My understanding is that the Millennium Falcon is it is an interactive version of star tours. The idea is you enter the cockpit of the ship and take the controls. Being a digital screen you can travel in any direction you wish and see something different each time. You co-travelers will be the gunners shooting down tie fighters chancing you. I suppose that they could have a droid flying the ship to stop people from fighting over who is going to fly the ship. What I find interesting is that Star Wars land will have two E-ticket attractions in it. I hope that the lack of smaller attraction is not missed.
Originally there was suppose to be a people mover type ride but it got axed when Florida complained of costs.
<The idea of leaving the vehicles in the middle of the attraction does strike me as being very impractical especially when you consider how much time and safety goes into just generally loading and unloading.> Yes. Especially when you think of the Miceage description (i.e. "then you must quickly re-board, in order to...") Not everyone can re-board quickly. Some people have disabilities, others are simply older. If the whole vibe of a particular moment of the ride depends on the guests/passengers role-playing "We have to escape! We have to get on (or off) quickly!" - it's going to not work much of the time. Even if everyone's young and agile, you know some of them will troll THAT aspect just to prove they're too hip or ironic to be there in the first place. Even if everyone cooperated (and were agile enough to do so), there's a reason why they give safety spiels and double-check your seat belts. That alone could spoil the mood, if that mood is indeed so important. Color me intrigued by the concept, but skeptical of Miceage's description.
