ABC and Sony Pictures TV are looking to turn The Goldbergs into a franchise with an offshoot series. This reminds me of Fox trying a spinoff of That 70s Show called That 80s Show. It only lasted a couple of episodes before being cancelled. The few successful spinoffs of shows usually have one off characters like Mork and Mindy and Laverne and Shirley that spun off of Happy Days, or creates whole new environments and situations like the extremely successful Frasier that spun off of Cheers.
