Looking forward, not back! Next up........................ Thanksgiving. No matter what, this will be found on my mother-in-law's table.
Every year my granddaughter and I make homemade cranberry sauce but she still insists on slicing up that gelatinous muck! The pickles are okay but I prefer them with a hamburger or hot dog and not a turkey dinner. Some festive decorations!
Love the decor! We will be having Thanksgiving at my sister's house since my nephew's 3rd birthday falls on the same day this year; We will have turkey with all the fixins, plus birthday cake I am making a layered rainbow jello salad that is a family tradition for as long as I can remember growing up... This isn't a great picture of of the end product, but this is me making it 10 years ago in our San Francisco apartment. It is alternating layers of clear jello with jello-mixed-with-sour cream, all in rainbow order.
Oh, yum. Your family table looks a lot like ours; aren't families great? Except, this year, instead of being with the kids we are going to the mountains. We are going to farm sit for our son and daughter-in-law so that she can be with her family. They do not get many opportunities and being farmers we understand. It will be just the two of us in their lovely home with a roaring fire. Then we will gird our loins as it looks like all except the grandchildren in Michigan will be here for Christmas! A ghost of Thanksgiving past: We raised him ourselves and that was my biggest roasting pan!!
If I remember correctly; he weighed a little over 46lbs. We had to take the oven door off to get him in. We raise chickens too. That stack is often 8 high in the spring. In winter they slow down.
Okay, Christmas is onboard and I am all over it Eggnog and gingerbread and mulled wine.................................OH MY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Speaking of getting Christmassy... I just finished a marathon of a baking weekend; I made banana chocolate swirl bread, eggnog fudge, chocolate peanut butter swirl fudge, as well as baklava. All the Christmas cards are signed, stuffed and addressed, all the treats are packed in tins and have been shipped today. (I went the very convenient route of ordering flat rate boxes from USPS, and scheduling the pick-up at my house---> never had to step foot in the post office!!) Now it's time to enjoy the leftovers and relax.
Thanks for the compliments ladies. Same shirt last year; rounder face and rounder belly. (And I was sucking it in
