I thought that Disney Channel didn't particularly care about the ratings, given that cable channels don't face the same pressure as the networks and Disney Channel doesn't even show ads. I can't imagine anything else they air would get noticeably higher viewership among the 18-49 demographic, since it's mostly pretty dreadful. Although GMW isn't as good as BWM was, it's at least palatable. It also seems odd to air a show that focuses so heavily on school during the summer; is this a shift from previous seasons?

As for the unresolved love triangle, perhaps viewers simply don't care about it when the story revolves around 13 year-olds. That storyline had consistently felt forced and fallen flat for me, particularly when they've done so many other interesting things lately. I also can't help but wonder if the moral in each episode is a bit heavy-handed. BMW often had morals and messages worked in, but it also had a ton of episodes that simply existed for their own sake; GMW tends to feel like an endless parade of afterschool specials

Disney Channel has canceled “Girl Meets World,” according to the show’s writers.

“It is with incredible pride in our work and complete sadness that things end, that I report to this wonderful audience that our show is over,” the @GMWwriters account tweeted Wednesday. “I just officially got the call, and would like to thank this audience for its incredible love and loyalty. Please watch our January episodes.”

The Twitter account, purported to be run by showrunner Michael Jacobs himself, went on to say: “We leave you with three incredible souvenirs of a show we couldn’t be more proud of. As I look back I can tell you with absolute certainty – We gave you our best.”
