The Vox pics only show the Mall to just past the Smithsonian "castle," but here's another pic from 2008 that shows the crowd then went well past that, all the way to the Washington Monument. It would shock no one if he still insisted that it was, evidence and your lying eyes be damned. But nope, Donnie. You lose.
I hope, I really really hope that we can at least wait for him to do something before we get all hot under the collar. His orange hair and skin, his boasting, his lies mean nothing. What matters is how his administration deals with those who are underinsured for medical, the economy, police abuse, terror, and north Korea. Does it really matter if he buffoons himself when there are important things like large pharmaceuticals charging too much for drugs or desertification around the world. Nuke policy is more important than buffoonery.
But keep focusing on the childish and silly packaging instead of what is actually inside the box. So superficial people are.
And you have to love this: Adam Pash (@adampash) | Twitter Apparently, on Trump's own Twitter page, they stole a stock photo of Obama's inauguration, and posted it as though it was theirs. LOL! (It seems to have been taken down already... do they really think people aren't going to notice?) Here's the deal: in the larger sense, size really doesn't matter. It's pretty incontrovertible that more people showed up in 2009 (and for several other inaugurations too) than showed up today. But really... so what? It doesn't mean Trump's going to be a bad president, it doesn't mean he is or isn't going to tackle the issues brought up in #2 (or any number of others), it doesn't mean... well, really, anything. It's just a fact. It only matters if Trump, or his surrogates, deny the obvious. Because that's emblematic of something larger. Of denying objective fact. Of pathetic insecurity (a dangerous trait in a president). Of inability to accept reality if that reality is even temporarily displeasing (ditto).
No, the smaller crowds are going to really tick him off. That's why it's worth every mention of them. And if you think that's something, you should have seen the parade route. Dozens of bleachers, TOTALLY empty. In Donald's defense, it had been raining so they were probably still a little damp ...
Yeah, I think it's fun that the (painfully obvious) smaller crowds will tick him off. But to me what matters is how he reacts to that. Like a mature adult? Keeping any disappointment to himself and being glad at the many thousands who did show up? Or like a petulant 8-year-old who can't accept the fact that someone else got something bigger and better? I think we know what the answer is going to be. And I do think that part of it matters. Because it shows his pathetic insecurity. Many people don't understand that narcissists can be extremely insecure - in fact, the two usually go together, and that's why they're always telling everybody (including themselves) how great they are. That's already wearing thin with a lot of people and I'd expect it to wear thin with many more as time goes on.
It is impossible for me to even imagine that someone who is an orange buffoon is going to make worthwhile decisions. I will happily admit if I am proven wrong. Don't think it will happen.
I'll wait until he makes some decisions and still call him Orange Jesus. He's a buffoon. He deserves the mockery.
He has been doing things. We know his cabinet appointments. Not so hot so far. I'll happily give him credit if he accomplishes some good. He's talking about rebuilding infrastructure. If he accomplishes that, I'd be happy. (Not that I won't point out that the GOP hypocrisy were to happen).
He doesn't have to insist any more Dabob. Now he's got his very own Baghdad Bob to do such things for him.
I'm actually quite encouraged by today. More people at the DC protest alone than at the inauguration. That's never come close to happening before. Plus millions more - literally - in other cities. The left is getting energized, if only out of necessity.
I was indeed encouraged by the turnouts yesterday. But when you are 64 years old and remember vividly fighting for these issues already; it is disheartening.
Especially when you remember all the pain and destruction that was happening. Most of the people that are Frump supporters did not witness that.. there parents did. I remember it. Can we manage to get out of this without another Kent State where our own government turns guns on our own people. It happened before and with this wingnut administration it is more likely to happen again. Mr. Frump has already stated the he loves war. I believe him because he was never in one personally. Wars can be fun to watch on TV. I know at least two relatives that supported the orange glow wonder, that have kids in the 17 and 18 year old age. If he manages to get us in another physical war based on ego we currently have an all volunteer Armed Forces. Do you think you would see a group of kids that didn't have a choice enlist to fight his war? So, what happens the draft is re-initiated. Something those Mommies and Daddies were to busy watching him flex his make-believe muscles to think about. My grandchildren may be involved, in voluntarily, in Trumps war. Vietnam was bad enough, at least we thought we had a reason to be there even if it wasn't what we thought. Yes, I know that hasn't happened yet. But, just the attitude that is happening right now with information coming to us as alternate truth (lies). With no transparency at all. With congress basically impotent out of fear of what carrot top will say about them. It's just not looking good. I guess those supporters are feeling pretty sure that he will be contacting them each personally to tell them what is going on with THEIR government and only Liberals will be left out in the cold. Oh, there will be a day of major awakening and it isn't going to be pretty regardless of the outcome.
Yeah, I get that. One of my favorite signs from Saturday was a woman dressed in suffragette gear with a sign that said "I can't believe I STILL have to protest this stuff" (except the last word wasn't actually "stuff"). There are always setbacks, but I do still believe that as MLK said, "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice." I also believe that this doesn't just happen - it must be fought for, and Saturday has to be just the beginning.
Kent State has been very much on my mind. I cringed telling my grandchildren about it. But it is not ancient history and it must be remembered for the travesty that it was. (All alternate fact to the contrary.) We did not actually march because my daughter was scared to take her children. We babysat so she and her husband could be a part of it. Luckily Seattle saw no serious problems. It was freaky when they came home and my daughter had written her emergency contact info on her arm in Sharpie though. If massive protests keep happening; I fear He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named could order the unthinkable.
It's nice to know I can use alternative facts now. So in that regard I can't wait to watch the Packers play in the Super Bowl in two weeks
