Disney is set to receive £41million over Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher’s untimely death after taking out insurance to cover her failing to fulfil a three-film contract, it was claimed last night. Fisher died on December 27, aged 60, having suffered a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles. The actress, who rose to prominence playing Princess Leia in George Lucas’ original 1970s Star Wars trilogy, had reprised her role in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I know this news sounds cold, but it is really standard industry practice to take out life/disability insurance on key actors in a movie. Fisher's death will certainly require a substantial re-write of Episode 9 and could potentially require re-shoots on Episode 8, so there are some potentially substantial expenses that the company will have to cover.
