A reporter for the Associated Press was provided an excerpt from the official transcript of the phone call between President Trump and the President of Mexico. In it he said," Trump to Mexico: I might deploy troops into your country to take care of 'bad hombres' Trump Threatens to Send U.S. Troops to Mexico to Take Care of 'Bad Hombres' I don't even know what to say.
I know it's the AP, but my skeptical bells are ringing pretty loud on this one. We shall see. EDIT: Er, then again ... No ‘G’day, mate’: On call with Australian prime minister, Trump badgers and brags
It's becoming disturbingly clear that the President has no concept of how to deal with adversarial friends, or even friends who offer a negative viewpoint from time to time. In his mind, anyone who crosses him, or speak ill of him in any way, is a blood enemy. At this rate America will have no allies left pretty soon!
I know, if he is talking this way to our allies, what happens when he talks to our enemies? What if he says the wrong thing to the wrong person? Something that he can't walk back from? Someone more than willing to shoot back, literally. The leaders of Australia and Mexico probably couldn't conceive that they would have to deal with an American leader, so out of control so fast. They have no contingency for this, and I'm sure they are working overtime to come up with some sort of alternative game plan. And hopefully it's not hooking up with the wrong country because they have no choice. So I can see why in the immediate aftermath Mexico needs to deny the exchange. They aren't prepared for any of this. And then we've got Iran and China, both just itching to test this administration. Iran, already started with the missle thing. We've put them, "on notice," whatever that means. I didn't know China has been in the business of kidnapping billionaires from fancy Hong Kong hotels, but apparently that's a thing too. So what else is China willing to do. Trade wars, Taiwan, South China Sea, we've got our pick of ways Trump can offend them.
For a while at least, I think he'll have a harder time dealing with allies, particularly ones accustomed to straight shooting their views with the Obama administration - adversaries will adhere to protocol, which in the President's small mind will sound like great deference to his awesomeness (he really dug that letter from Putin that called him "your excellency", probably gave him a rush like nobody's business). HOWEVER, as you say, when he does go too far, and he most certainly will, barricade the doors people cause it's gonna get ugly...
