Ben Whishaw is in talks to join Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda in Disney’s sequel “Mary Poppins Returns.” The movie, directed by Rob Marshall, is set 25 years after the events of 1964’s original “Mary Poppins.” If Whishaw’s deal goes through, he would play the grown-up Michael Banks. I'm still surprised Meryl Streep is involved with this project, considering the lovely things she had to say about Walt after Saving Mr Banks. It seems like both parties would prefer to keep their distance from one another, but what do I know? Then again, I suppose TWDC doesn't particularly care about Walt these days any way (other than occasional lip service), so why would that stop them?
Emily Mortimer has signed on to join Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda in Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns.” Mortimer will play Jane Banks, who along with her brother Michael (who will be played by Ben Whishaw in the pic), was one of the children the magical titular nanny looked after in the original 1964 film, and is now all-grown-up in this installment.
