Has anyone here ever stayed at Disney's Vero Beach Resort? Would it be worth a visit?

I'm asking, because, if everything goes according to plan, we we will return to the US for vacation next year to visit friends in Ohio. Until now we had plans to go to Canada afterwards, but now a friend of ours will be in Miami and so we might visit him instead. Since we might fly into Orlando and take the car from there to Miami, we thought about staying for two nights at Disney's Vero Beach Resort.

I don't have any informations about that resort, except that it is a Vacation Club hotel. So is that hotel bookable for regular guests too, or is a membership required?

I've never stayed there, but I've heard good things about it. It obviously won't be an over-the-top Disney experience, but it's supposed to be a really nice hotel and the characters make daily appearances. My parents visited the island of Vero Beach a year or two ago and keep talking about how nice a place it is to visit; they've never had any interest in Florida before, but they've had some half-serious discussions about retiring to Vero Beach after that visit

You should be able to book as a non-DVC member directly through Disney, but you'll probably get a much better price if you go through one of the DVC point rental travel agents, like David's. There are some additional complications that make it hard to make last-minute changes to your reservation, but if you know your plans in advance it's a great way to save 25% or more. I used a DVC point rental service for a stay at Old Key West in WDW last year, and it worked out very well

So finally I found some time to thank you for the answer and the great advices.

We are still not sure about going to Florida, since Canada and Toronto have a lot to offer too.

My wife and I stayed there for a night while we were traveling from Orlando to Miami for our wedding a couple of years ago. It's a cute little place - it's fairly out of the way, even from the town of Vero Beach, never mind any major cities like Orlando, and the beach is pretty much the only major activity at the resort. Still, if you're in the mood to get in some beach time, it's a nice place to visit!

As far as staying there, non-members can book rooms through Disney and pay a set rack rate, just like at any other DVC resort. The resort's never exactly packed, so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting a reservation.

Recently we booked our flights to Detroit and will not go to Florida. Instead we decided to go to Toronto after we visited our friends in Michigan and Ohio.

Still thanks to all who anwered my questions about Vero Beach.
