I've seen this done elsewhere online and thought it might be fun to do here. The premise is to post controversial or unpopular opinions that you hold true, and may secretly think that you're not alone in...or maybe you are.

It can be related to Disney or just a general observation about anything, but let's try to keep the World Events topics out of it

Controversial opinion: I liked the WDW 25th Castle Cake. Yes it was tacky and over-the-top, but it was an unmistakable symbol of the festivities, and was ridiculous enough that it was quickly removed after the celebration was over. Plus the way that the inflatable elements swayed and smushed in the breeze made it fun to watch throughout the day!

I liked several of the elements of the original DCA.

    'Eureka!' Parade
    Seasons of the Vine
    Golden Dreams
    Soap Opera Bistro
    The Mondavi restaurant

And some of the original-ish live entertainment including Three Bags Full.

Controversial opinion: I'm more likely to run on a treadmill in the summer than in the winter

Although winter tends to have far worse conditions for outdoor activities, I actually don't mind running in them, assuming the ground isn't icy; if anything, the cool temperatures encourage me to go faster and keep moving. The summer has heat, allergies, and crowded sidewalks, none of which are much fun when trying to move quickly

Finally someone besides myself that can see past the blinding nostalgia and recognize the whimsical, imaginative and, I dare say, expensive, celebration symbol. It was a great temporary addition to the park and identified the fun nature that Walt intended the parks to have instead of some stodgy, museum like atmosphere that so many seem to crave.

But, but... it covered the castle! Big damn deal. So a fake plastic birthday cake covered a fake plastic castle. Seriously, we all need a little perspective on what an entertainment based park should direct itself too. I think that one of the reasons that TDO got so tight with money was because of the foolish backlash the alleged Disney fans spewed forth. That was the beginning of the end of special short term attractions. After that any celebratory building/display was built to stay for decades instead of just temporary. Now pretty much nothing is done just to make a big deal out of any special occasion.

Saw it every time I was there.

I hate the anime type versions of Disney characters, especially Mickey.

I didn't have a problem with the birthday cake. In the case of WDW, it is a large property. And I have to credit Disney for thinking beyond the parks. For example, look at all the road races going on. Almost every week there is yet another Disney road race going on in various parks. WDW just has a lot of things going on. Also it is a huge bureaucracy. Each park is competing against each other for dollars. Most of the time the MK is the winner. Frankly, the "other" parks all need some drastic updating.

I think "Citizen Kane" is just an okay movie. I can appreciate the technical aspects but the story does nothing for me.

I don't get the love for 'Caddyshack' or 'The Blues Brothers' or 'The Big Lebowski.'

True. I would add 'The Aristocats' as being only marginally okay.

Not a fan of 'The Jungle Book' either.

With few exceptions, I really don't like Disney shows.

I like most Disney parades, but I find the shows tedious and cheesy (why that doesn't apply to my opinion of parades, I can not say).

Disney is still the leader in the themepark industry and the parks are still superior to Universal.

For a couple of years now it's en vogue to criticize everything that Disney does and praise everything that Universal does. I may be a Disney fanboy, I don't care, but for me all Disney parks I've visited, except for WDSP and DHS, are still a lot better than Universal Hollywood and Orlando. Not even HP can change that, although Forbidden Journey is one of the best themepark rides. However Indiana Jones is still better although it's much older.

The 3 hardest "tickets" to get at Disney World among all its rides are not even in the top 25 for quality and overall experience: Frozen, Dwarfs Train, Toy Story Mania
    Frozen: Pirates is monumentally better
Dwarfs: Big Thunder does it 3 times better
Toy Story Mania: I'd rather ride Buzz

I don't consider The Aristocats' awfulness as being all that controversial. ;-)
