Disney is continuing to find new ways to turn their existing creations and properties into something more, and the Jungle Cruise is going to be no exception. The historical Disney Parks’ attraction is one that will be turned into a live-action movie much in the same way that Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion have been in the past. Now, it has been revealed that star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will also help in a re-design of the famous ride.

The JC could use a refreshing, no doubt about it. Of course, it's all about HOW they refresh it.

One simple improvement that I can't believe they still haven't done: how about improving the mic/sound system? Seriously, how hard could that be today? Sure, sometimes the distortion etc. is the fault of the skipper, but even a skipper who's doing everything right can get his/her words lost sometimes.

Remember when the Haunted Mansion movie was coming out and Jennifer Tilly said that she would be replacing Madame Leota in the ride? Just because a celebrity "announces" something doesn't mean that it will actually happen (and despite all press to the contrary, I doubt the Rock is giving any meaningful input to the design process)

Without really knowing the plot of the movie or what the proposed changes are, I think this has the potential to be okay. The ride is a series of disconnected vignettes now, so adding/changing one would work just fine, unlike the POTC changes that completely changed the attraction. The WDW version could especially use some updating and a little more excitement along the way

I have the feeling we're going to see 3-4 animatronic Rocks popping up throughout the ride. I'm sure it will thrill some of the ladies...or guys. But, just like Depp on potc, it can be a little overplayed.

I think I've asked this question before.

    Why?

The last time I looked, JC was already heavily inspired by a movie. A non-Disney property, to be sure, but without The African Queen, there most likely never would have been a JC.

As to PotC, I was surprised at how little the movie (and the references to it) had changed the attraction.

HM, on the other hand, is utterly ruined. The old folk backstory that specifically tied the DL HM to the DL PotC (i.e., the old chestnut about a bride-to-be throwing herself out the tower window upon learning that her sea captain fiancee was a pirate, with the captain committing suicide out of remorse) was romantic; the now-official backstory about an axe-murdering bride is simply disgusting.

Agreed. All these ridiculous backstories should stay within the minds of the Imagineers.
