Max Pass is $10 per person per day. From my understanding, you can pick and choose which days you want it for; you don't need to buy it for your entire trip if you don't want to. I believe it can be purchased on the app, at guest relations, at the ticket counters, and possibly at some of the retail locations. You have to be in the park to make your FP reservation with Max Pass (I don't think you can search both parks at the same time), but you don't have to be near the specific attractions. The regular FastPasses are still free to all park guests, and available at the machines near the attractions.

Max Pass is new, so there's not a lot of information on it at the moment. It's run through the Disneyland app, which like all Disney technology has its issues and isn't available on all devices, so make sure it works before you commit to the purchase. Be aware that unlike WDW, DLR does not have guest wifi in the parks, so you may want to bring a backup battery

I second what @FerretAfros stated. I used MaxPass the last time I was at the parks. You don't have to purchase it for every day, but I found it nice to not only be able to download PhotoPass and ride pics, but to be able to make FastPass selections without walking all of the way across the park. There is SPOTTY wifi in the parks, and I wasn't always able to access MaxPass, but my husband was so he was the one making the selections for both of us. For $10 a day it was worth it for us just because of the pictures.
