This was 1993. My girlfriend at the time was a huge fan of Pooh. This was before Pooh had a regular place in the park so we weren't sure if we'd see him. At one point we were walking along and she spotted him. She then threw everything she was holding into my hands and ran off shouting. I had NO IDEA what was going on. I learned later that she was shouting "It's Pooh! It's Pooh!" over and over again but I couldn't understand what she was saying when she was saying it. So my memory of the event is my girlfriend shoving everything she's holding into my hands and running off hysterically while shouting something unintelligible. I'm still friends with her and we still laugh about it today.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: given that nobody out on this coast had the sense to dump the instantly-dated "Vacation Hoedown" in favor of going back to the timeless original CBJ (the way they did in Florida), our Pooh ride was only replacing a more malodorous sort of "pooh."

My most memorable time was when I took my daughter there when she was seven. When we entered the gate together I felt more like her brother than her dad at that moment...I felt like a kid again, it was a great feeling made more special because I was there with my daughter.

That feeling intensifies when one acquires grandchildren. It is so much fun to share the Magic with new generations.

Love reading all of your memories.
I have quite a few. We used to drive to DL every summer from Oregon. One year my girls and I played Red Rover with all of the Alice characters. That same trip they played duck duck goose with Peter Pan and Wendy. Another trip when the Parade of Stars was going on we were able to do it 6 times in one week. We still tease my son about his WOO kicks. Sadly my husband passed away in 2013 from cancer. In 2012 we were graciously gifted a final trip to DL from a dear friend. She got us concierge rooms and DLH. It had always been a dream to stay there so we enjoyed every moment of that trip knowing it would be our final one as a family of 5. We have not been back as a family since that trip and are planning a trip in Sept. of 2018 as a remembrance of my husband and all that he loved about DL.

So sorry to hear about your loss, but I'm so happy to hear about your wonderful memories. I'm sure that your trip this year will be bittersweet, but it will be good for your heart to be in a place where your family shared so much happiness and joy. Sending you tons of pixie dust from a fellow Pacific Northwesterner for your upcoming trip.

Thank you. I am so thankful that we took the annual pilgrimage to DL. We have amazing memories and I am also a scrap booker so we have those to look at when times are tough.

My wife and I have taken the kids to DL regularly over the past 23 years. So many incredible moments with them. I'm not sure, if anything happened to my wife, that I'd be able to make the voyage again. So, I'm glad to hear that you and your family are brave enough to visit again. Certainly, your husband will be watching over you all, smiling.

By no means my "fondest," but certainly a fond memory:

The new LP article on the Mike Fink Keelboats (and the Indian Village) brought back some memories for me. I don't remember the Indian Village at all, other than as a location on some old maps (I was too young to appreciate it at the time, as with CoP in DL), but I have fond memories of the Mike Fink Keelboats, and from the time we first rode them until they made the trip to Yesterland, they were, for my family, the vessels of first choice for a trip around ROA.

Part of the appeal, for us at least, was that the skipper had (at least by the time we'd discovered them) the freedom to go off-script, and give the spiel a liberal sprinkling of groaners (and I think they may have predated the Jungle Cruise in this).

You must be younger than I as I remember both of these and really miss CoP. Always a favorite. An Eticket ride that required no ticket!!

    55. 56 in June. I was 11 when CoP closed, and 9 when the Indian Village closed. The latter was kind of a long walk for something that didn't seem all that interesting, and as to CoP, well, as a child, I was always timid about attractions that gave no hint about what actually goes on unless you actually went inside. (I was in my mid-teens, the first time I rode PotC or HM)

On the other hand, when I go to WDW, CoP is always a "must do multiple times" attraction for me. Sort of like GMR and Ellen, before they both closed. (Why is it that for every new reason Disney gives me to visit one of their theme parks, they take away at least one old reason for me to do so? Why can't they tear down the attractions that barely rate a "meh" from me, or the handful that have no appeal for me at all, or the smaller handful that I actively dislike [e.g., ITtBaB]?)

(I've also never once ridden Autopia; the closest I got was about a third of the way through the queue, at which point I changed my mind. Also never rode Henry's Auto Livery at Knotts. Rode their "Antique Auto Ride/Tijuana Taxi" (which of course isn't real cars any more than the Snow White, Roger Rabbit, Pinocchio, or Mr. Toad vehicles are real cars) many times, back when Knotts was a cheap place locals went on weekends, and rode their "Gasoline Alley" a few times as a teenager, and rode DL's Motor Boat Cruise a couple of times, but never once rode any version of Atuopia.)

CoP is one of the main reasons we want to do Disneyworld in the not-too-distant future.

I have a ton of amazing memories over the years, but three stand out:
    1) I will always love the feel of the warm air, as the sun sets and the lights come up on main street, from the summer we went as a family (parents, sis and I) during the summer and saw the MSEP. I can practically smell all the food, and hear the crowd murmur.
    2) taking my daughter for the first time for her 3rd birthday, with hubby's parents. Watching her enjoy so many things I love.
    3) singing my way down main street as part of Candlelight Procession. I practically cried, it was so cool. I only got to do it once, but it was amazing.
