I don't know if anyone from the old days is even here anymore. Or even anyone from the newer days. I have read hundreds of posts about Tokyo Disneyland over the years. When I joined LP, way back when, I thought it would only be a few years before we would make the trip. When Tokyo DIsneySea opened I wanted so badly to go after the opening, only for 9/11 to happen which set off a chain of "life events" that set us on a path where a trip to Japan was always pushed off for something more responsible. I remember communicating with the Imagineer who did Sindbad because it was the attraction I was most excited to see and he was pleased to see someone excited about his little ride, when the focus was on other parts of the park. So now here it is, 18 1/2 years after joining LP.com and I can finally say, "I'm going to Tokyo Disneyland!"

I'm going with my husband and my Dad. Part of "real life" was losing my Mom in 2015 and then committing myself to making sure that my Dad got to do his "bucket list" trip to see the Tokyo parks during Christmas. But with the price of the hotels and the airfare, and so many responsibilities it was only a dream. Then we found out about how to work the credit card miles game. So we had enough miles for 3 RT flights from Den-NRT on the non-stop Dreamliner flight. It's a $2400 per person flight normally. Since we weren't paying $7200 on airfare, that gave us the money to stay at the MiraCosta.

So we are going 11/30 (12/1) - 12/8. First night in Japan is a Saturday and the only Disney hotel available was the Tokyo Celebration Hotel, so we are staying there 1 night, before transferring to the MiraCosta for the rest of the trip. We are definitely doing 4 days at the parks, and 1 day in the city and then we will have 1 day for either more park, touring hotels/Ikspiari or just resting. DH and I will return to Japan on a later trip to actually see Japan, but this trip is more for my Dad.

So much has changed since the first time I started looking at planning a Tokyo trip (remember back in the 90's when they wouldn't even take US credit cards and so you had to plan on carrying all your cash) so in some ways we are starting over. And I can't wait!

Sounds like a great trip! I've always wanted to stay at the Mira Costa, but could never justify the price; free roundtrip flights certainly would help with that!

With your extra day, I'd really recommend a second day in the city. Tokyo is such a huge place with so many great things that you could easily spend several weeks there and not see it all. Ikspiari is a perfectly fine mall, but really nothing special; unless you really need a rest day, I think it's worth getting out there and exploring, especially if you've never been there before

And while using American cards is easier than in the past, it can still occasionally be difficult to find ATMs that take them. You shouldn't have any problems at TDR, but most other areas are still largely cash-based so it's best to plan ahead

Yes, some of us still post here!!! So many old-timers come on and say, "Wow, nobody's here." and do not post again. If just a few would hang around we could grow our community back.
"Trump Fatigue" pretty much killed WE. Who wants to post and comment on every stupid thing? Just too much.

All that aside; I am so excited for you. Tokyo Disney is one of the ones we really want to see. That and Paris. But we just bought a new motorhome so our travels will be confined to the Mainland for a few years to come. Please let us know as your plans progress and give us a trip report with pictures. Those of us still hanging on will pay attention, I promise. [IMG]
