Seriously, this was not in the plan and will be hard to finance after this trip. BUT... My grandson (who has been a drum major for 3 years) is now the Senior drum major and will be leading his Titans down Main Street USA in January. Three of my children marched in Disneyland and I did not go. But he is the drum major!!! And, their conductor is pulling strings so his 7th grade brother can march too. We just have to see it. We are hoping to possibly save some $$$$$$ by being chaperones.
It's a requirement! You must go. My son's hs band marched last April. He's not a drum major, but there was no way we could miss it. Especially since we went when his older sister's band marched a few years before. It was great fun. However, my daughter's band marched as part of a large official parade through CA. My son's band marched down Main Street, but it was just the band; there was no official parade. That made it go by really fast and wasn't quite as exciting as we had hoped.
I played with my middle school band in Disneyland. No marching...if I remember correctly we were over by the Jolly Holiday. My parents didn't go, but they kinda' kicked themselves about that for a couple of years. I, on the other hand, was ecstatic they weren't there. You should definitely go!! Band major is a big deal...especially when marching down Main Street in Disneyland!!!
Thanks. My daughter marched in the '80's and we still had 4 younger children at home. I am sure she was just as happy that we were not there. My daughter Shawnette danced the hula with the Kahuku marching band. It would have cost us thousands to go. (We lived in Hawaii.) She also got to do the Rose Parade. John was a drummer and we just could not afford that trip. But we have helped Will go to camp and he has won many awards. It is very special.
