They just announced it. Also you will need a reservation (fastpass??) Guests planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park between May 31 and June 23, 2019, will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Information on how to make a reservation will be available at a later date on Disneyland.com and the Disney Parks Blog. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest); valid theme park admission is required.
I am glad I have absolutely NO intention of being there. On the other hand; I am equally happy that they are doing something for crowd control.
I can wait. Probably won't make it there until they get the Christmas decorations up, and the Christmas parade (I like "A Christmas Fantasy"). After all, I was there a number of times for the most recent MSEP encore. And hearing about "Mickey's Mix Mistake" didn't exactly boost my enthusiasm for reinstating my pass.
In thinking it over I think that the slow roll out of Galaxy Edge might be very good for the crowds situation for the park. With only having one ride open I think that a lot of out of town people might postpone their trips until later in the year spreading them out. Also the reservation system will keep the APs, like myself, limited to the land. This will all prevent the crush over the first few months. (Not the first few days).
We will probably wait for the holiday decorations like @hbquikcomjamesl . Not in a big rush to get down there right when it opens. I do like their idea of having the reservations for the area to make sure it doesn't get too bogged down back there.
Yes. The crowds are bad enough for opening day of the Hollywood Bowl Box Office (I usually wait until my next free weekend to do my ticket run); I don't even want to think about opening day crowds for GE at DL. They'd have to be running the MSEP, with the Don Dorsey version of the score, and the Blue Fairy back where she belongs, to get me into the Park with GE opening month crowds.
I think some people absolutely love the huge crowds at DL. I don't get it. I know I will not be seeing Galaxy's Edge for a long time.
