The title should have been " Favorite Quick Service In Disneyland" I had to leave a few smaller places off this list due to the limits of the software, but what is your favorite place to get a quick bite?
One can never go wrong with the grilled cheese and tomato soup combo with a Matterhorn macaroon at the Jolly Holiday!!
To the extent that the Plaza Inn is "quick service," of course. Personally, I've always associated that phrase with counter-service, of which the Bengal Barbecue is the only one in DL that I've patronized recently (I did Flo's, the last time I went to DCA [sometime last year, I think]). Personally, still I miss the traditional cafeteria line at the Plaza Inn. I also miss the yellow-gravy hot turkey sandwich at The French Market. Do they still have the traditional cafeteria line?
They still have the cafeteria line at the French Market. I used to enjoy their red beans with rice and andouille, but that is sadly off the menu. Their french dip is okay, but my guy LOVED their cajun meatloaf. We generally eat there at least once during a trip, but they have removed the meatloaf recently. Looks like it has been replaced with a pulled pork sandwich, which is right up our alley though. It's a great place to people watch and listen to the jazz band while you eat.
I heartily agree. Dipping that sandwich into the soup...…….YUM! But for a good quick bite a meat skewer and a veggie one (sometimes accompanied by a Tigger Tail breadstick) is also a thing we do often. (Though the last time it was not the quality nor the quantity of the past. *sigh*) And, as with everything, the price has gone up. And there is often a pretty long line. Wait! did I vote for this as my favorite?!? Maybe I should change that. As for missing things. They had a great breakfast at Rancho with Mexican on one side and traditional on the other. (You could mix them up if you asked.) It was gone last time we were there. We still often do dinner there as you get quite a bit of food for your money. That is probably my favorite.
I wish I could vote for two. I would include French Market as a favorite even though they aren't serving our old favorites. It's my favorite spot to sit and eat due to the ambiance of the area...the jazz band playing, people bustling by, the smell of beignets, and sipping on a mint julip isn't a bad way to spend some time.
We used to love the French Market. In fact, two kids chicken meals was plenty. But I do not like the new menu. We will still go there to sit and have beignets and coffee. (But the coffee is terrible; we bring some from Rancho.)
There was a time when every visit to DL included a meal at The French Market. Either chicken, or a yellow gravy hot turkey sandwich (their yellow turkey gravy was a bit spicy, with visible flecks of coarse black pepper). And I have fond memories of Teddy Buckner's band performing there. Best traditional New Orleans jazz I've heard, this side of Preservation Hall. When I was in DL for Grad Night, back in 1980, I was very disappointed that he (along with every other act that wasn't rock) had the night off.
Steve is a creature of habit, and French Market has been that habit of his when we go visit. I introduced him to River Belle Terrace on our last trip as part of the Fantasmic Dining package. I think he liked the food, and would go back again. I have to find him a new "habit" which can be tough since he's an extremely picky eater. I have to tell him when I first start getting hungry to start looking for a place where he is willing to eat because I can always find SOMEthing on a menu that I would eat.
I was there! Wasn't it Kool and the Gang and KC and the Sunshine Band? I was with two of my friends all day and I don't think we stopped long enough to listen to any of it. Then a kid died on the PeopleMover. It was a crazy night.
The Hungry Bear isn't too bad. I like sitting by the Rivers of America with my family. It gives me a nostalgic feeling.
I don't remember anything about a kid dying on the PeopleMover (possibly a different night; I can't imagine that with all the demand, they'd only do it one night), but I did find myself on PotC next to a bunch of guys singing lines that probably didn't come from Xavier Atencio (or if they did, he didn't publish them).
Lines about "rape the women and kill the men" (you know, like real pirates), and making an innuendo about somebody's sexual orientation. (Personally, I have for some time had the impression that the pirates in PotC learned piracy in Cornwall. Specifically, Penzance. Or now that I think about it, maybe from the Dread Pirate Roberts.)
I never thought of them having Grad Night for more than one night, but it would make sense. It felt like every teenager in America was there that one night. I didn't know about the death until long after the fact. Apparently it happened late at night. Funny bit about the PotC. I can clearly see that happening.
