The more I read and try and absorb information about COVID-19, the more it becomes clear that this will be with us for a while. There won't be a light switch and everything will be back to normal. Instead, it increasingly looks like we will have a very slow ramping up of a return to semi-normalcy. Over time, testing will increase and improve, as will tracing. People will still get sick but hospitals will get better at treating them. Some drugs look promising for treatment, but these are still drugs for people who are seriously ill in the hospital, not vaccines, which are likely 12–16 months away. So over the next several months I expect we'll evolve to a new way of living: movie theatres are open, but you have to sit in alternate seats away from people and you have to wear a mask. Same with things like the symphony. Basketball and baseball may return but to empty stadiums, at least at first. Airlines may require temperature checks before you can fly. So what does that look like for Disneyland? Could they do temperature checks and turn guests away at the gate? Would they require everyone to wear a mask? What about capping capacity? Revamping queues to keep people six-feet apart seems plausible for some rides, but perhaps not others. Virtual queues could be an option. What will a reopened Disneyland look like, at least for the next several months?
All of those questions have been roaming around in my head. All I know is that we have over $1000 in rewards dollars and plan to use them for APs when we can again. I figure we will probably wait because I feel that when restrictions are lifted people will be flocking out in droves. (Just look at those Florida beaches.) Our biggest concern is seeing our grandchildren in Michigan (who we only see once a year already.) Followed closely by the grandchildren in Washington (who we see much more often). Getting to Disneyland is right there after those two. So hopefully, when we can travel again, we will get those trips done and things will have calmed down a bit elsewhere as our lives return to some sort of normalcy.
Disneyland reopening will be base a long on the California Guide lines. If I were in charge I would look at maybe having some limited number private parties (up charge) to act as a soft opening and bring things up to speed. That way AP and the general public will not feel like they have to rush to the park and it will not become over whelm. This slower method will also allow them to have all the rides tested and working and will allow for all social distancing. It can not be good to have all the attractions down for so long.
I'm curious to see what the crowds will look like? Will people be scared to travel? Will there be less crowding? Will deals have to be offered? With a worldwide recession potentially coming, I'm interested to see what will happen.
Hi Tasha! With the crazy openings of beaches and parks I have seen; I think it will be a madhouse. Some people may be broke and afraid to travel but not enough.
