Covid19 notwithstanding; we just had to get into our motor home and go! We self isolated for two weeks and set out with plans to only stop for gas and pay electronically. No restaurants or public restrooms. Oh yeah, my sister said it was okay to visit her in Arkansas if we met those criteria. So............ The trip started out about the same as most. I always have some anxiety that dissipates as things progress. We went to our usual spot in the Delta and caught enough fish for a good meal. I spent most of the time just relaxing as much as I could. Then we headed on up toward Clearlake and things were just humming along.....until.....we were passed by several emergency vehicles. About 15 miles on down the road traffic came to a standstill. When we got to the front a CHP was turning us around. He told us there was a fire and there was no information; only that all the alternate routes were also closed. We drove several miles just kind of wondering what to do. To go back to the freeway and around through the Bay Area would take at least 5 hours. My poor daughter, who has had nothing but grief in her life lately had her heart set on this trip. It was in leu of our planned Disneyland trip. They would be staying in a rental house and we would be in the RV so we could *social distance* it. We found some shade to pull off under and kind of laughed at ourselves. Here we are driving a fully self-contained RV. We could stay all night if need be. We did some checking and there was no mention of the fire nor how long traffic might be tied up anywhere. We made the decision to turn back around and get close enough to see what was happening and wait. We had a snack and started a game to Pinochle. We had not finished the game when I looked through the binoculars and could see traffic moving up the hill. We took off with the others who had decided to wait and were just cruising along when traffic stopped again. We worked on our card game and after a while we were moving slowly as they had cut down to one lane to pass the fire. We had no signal so were not able to let the family know we had made it through. All in all it cost us about 2.5 hours so we were way better off waiting than driving way around. The weekend at Clearlake was relaxing. We spent most of Saturday either in the lake or fishing from it. Nobody was having any luck until Wil, the 18yo landed a 30 inch 10 pound catfish. That was a thrill for him. I have never caught a fish that big and I have been fishing all my life. Our time there was all too short and we decided to head to our house as it was right on our way. We were able to shower, do laundry and pick up a few things we had overlooked.
No doubt Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley were also "happy to get away" when they successfully undocked from the ISS. But at any rate, I'm glad to hear your trip went well. Although the last two sentences left me a bit confused.
Woa, that does sound a bit weird. We left our house and went north to spend the weekend with our daughter's family. Then we headed back south to head to Arkansas. We were passing our house on the way so we stopped to clean up and restock and headed out again. Hope that sounds a bit more clear.
Space is very big. But the ISS is rather small, at least compared to, say, a studio apartment on Earth. On the other hand, it is rather unlikely that one would be exposed to COVID-19 on the ISS.
Hmm. In 2009, when I split Spring between a Tucson/Dallas/Oklahoma City/Grand Canyon itinerary and my usual Northern California itinerary, I spent two weeks back home (and back at work) in between.
