Disney Announces Residential Community Development Initiative Storyliving by Disney

Personally, when I really, as an adult, mulled over the original "EPCOT as a working city" concept, I realized just how invasive it would be: coming home from work to find that one's appliances had been changed out without so much as a how-do-you-do. (It <profanity> me off enough, just having unwanted OS updates on my computers!)

I realize that the new developments aren't quite that concept, any more than Celebration, FL is, but I find the whole concept denoted by the phrase "master planned community" more than a little unappealing: my favorite vacation destinations are cities that are profoundly unplanned, like San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Boston. They're the real "storyliving."

My son just pointed this out to me. My reaction was much the same as yours.

I too hate when I get on my computer and have to wait because it is updating. Or I go to use my phone and there has been an update and stuff is different.

In the older sections of the four cities I named (and also NYC), it seems like every building has a story to tell. And everybody living in those buildings is living that story.

Yes! I can feel the history in San Francisco. We lived there in the 70's. I always say I want to go there for like a month and walk and take the bus like we used to. I really wanted to hitchhike there for the 50th anniversary of the"Summer of Love" but thought better of it.
We pass by Chicago every summer but have never braved leaving the freeway. Guess we should give it a try.
New England is on our to do list. There are campgrounds where we can leave the RV and take shuttles into the towns. Sounds like a good way to not have to deal with traffic, parking and getting lost.

I don't know what kind of fertilizer they put on their museums in Chicago, but they sure grow 'em big!
