Sorry for your loss. I found that with my grandmother I grieved her loss years before she actually passed due to strokes erasing who she was. When she did die it was more of a relief than anything else. I totally understand your mindset about her passing. It's too bad that she didn't take the opportunity to truly get to know you (and support the wonderful relationship you and Rod have). She really missed out.
SNL actually licensed the "Colon Blow" brand image. The "It's Sugar" chain of novelty candy shops carried it. At any rate, my condolences. If you don't need them, then pass them on to your husband and his family.
Thank you both. I will pass on the kind thoughts. The kids are sad about losing their grandma. But she has been surviving in a no-kill shelter for three years. To me she was already dead. Though I did not like the woman; I am relieved for her. I had no desire to see her suffer. You are so right PNT. She cheated herself out of time not only with her son but her grandchildren as well. My conscience is clear. I tried hard to have a positive relationship. As I have mentioned before; her loyalty to an extremely insular church made it impossible for her to get past her resentment that we chose a different path. She was also controlling, manipulative and passive aggressive by nature. May she rest in peace.
We are farmers at heart and have missed it so much. Now that our son is living here, we can still travel as he is a farmer too and knows how to handle things. Sadly, he is going through a tough divorce, but it is working out for us. We are even floating the idea of going in together on a bigger place.

I went to a restaurant this afternoon. First time we have had a real meal out since March 2020. The free dessert was chocolate or tapioca pudding. I had the tapioca. And I absolutely adore chocolate pudding.
I don't eat chocolate. At all. Over five decades ago (closer to 5 1/2), I was referred to an allergist who (on shaky evidence at best, and most likely motivated by a desire to get me to submit to a lengthy, painful, and LUCRATIVE series of skin tests and an even longer and more lucrative series of shots, declared chocolate and peanuts to be probable aggravating factors in my allergies. Even though (with the exception of zinc by skin contact, and sulfanilamide and its derivatives) those allergies were (and are) mild and largely respiratory. (Ironically, a few months earlier, when the pharmacist only had the antihistamines I was on at the time in pill form, and I found all the usual flavored liquid vehicles for crushing up pills in unappealing, he/she made up a bottle of my prescription using pre-packaged chocolate milk as a vehicle!) As any number of Warner Bros. cartoon characters might say, that allergist didn't know me very well. For me, the proverbial "path of least resistance" was to cultivate an extreme loathing for chocolate. (A loathing for peanuts, I didn't have to cultivate; that's why I make cashew-butter cookies.) And it was also right about that time that Nestle came out with a strawberry flavor of its "Quik" flavored milk powder. I've never had a reason to un-cultivate that loathing for chocolate. Every Halloween, I pick up a bag of vanilla mini Cow Tales, and include one in what each kid gets. And I never bothered to even try the carob-based chocolate substitutes the allergist suggested, so I haven't the slightest idea what carob-based chocolate substitute tastes like.
I think once, I got close to trying corned beef. Somehow, the idea of cooked meat that's magenta just doesn't appeal to me. (Which is to say, I've had coq au vin exactly once, and wasn't expecting it to be magenta, but it was in a restaurant, so . . .)
Corned beef is far from my favorite and we only have it once a year ever since our daughter married a very Irish Irishman. And now those grandchildren are 1\2 Irish. Just a silly tradition I suppose but this was very, very good. Our son is a bit of a gourmet. He cooked me out of the kitchen when he was 10!
Yeah, we are up at our foothills house. (The one we recently inherited.) It is still cold up here so we lit the fire and I found myself staring longingly at a box of hot cocoa mix.
