YAY!!!! I get to post a countdown I know I'm repeating things I've posted elsewhere but it's just been so long. Hopefully someone will come browsing through soon. Our daughter's husband died the Friday before Christmas. Though it was not unexpected; it has been understandably hard on all of us. We did our best to celebrate Christmas Eve and Day. Lots of tears as well as laughter. But the final upshot is that everyone agreed that a Disneyland trip would be the best tribute we could pay to his memory. SOOOOOO!!!! Drum roll⚡ 23 DAYS!!!!!
I just happened to look: The Blue Bayou seems to have put the prime rib back on the menu. That suggests that things might be looking up from a culinary standpoint. On the other hand, I still get a bit of culture shock whenever I see alcohol on the menu in any of the Magic Kingdom parks, especially DL. (WDW, not so good from a culinary standpoint. Most of it seems too weird for my taste.)
I want the pork loin with rootbeer sauce. Other than a character breakfast with the whole family; we probably won't do a lot of Park eating. Maybe a grilled cheese and tomato basil soup at Jolly Holiday. FIVE MORE DAYS!
I'm different in that respect. Probably because I'm used to breakfasts that are cheap, light, and fiber-rich. At home, it's a bowl of either Cheerios, Rice Chex, farina (Bob's Red Mill, not Cream of Wheat, served with cinnamon and maple syrup), or grits (Alber's), with whole wheat toast (Dave's Killer Bread), milk, and apple juice. On vacation, it's typically something similar, especially if I have to pay for it. (If my hotel has a Continental breakfast included in the room rate, I might have a Carbon's Golden Malted DIY waffle, if provided, or I might have oatmeal [especially if the "cheerios" are actually a cheap generic ersatz]. And if there's a chafing-dish of scrambled eggs, I might have a small scoop. It was a combination of my first visits to New Orleans and to Colonial Williamsburg that turned me on to grits.) Back when we had family vacations, I tended to drive my mother crazy, ordering cheap, light breakfasts in restaurants, because she felt that my doing so made her look like she was depriving me. Even though she herself didn't especially like eggs. Go figure. If I'm in San Francisco, I'll typically have French toast at the Buena Vista one morning, and I'll have the 18 little Swedish pancakes at Sears' Fine Food -- the only pancakes that don't make me dyspeptic -- another morning; otherwise, it's typically instant oatmeal in my room, with the water heated in the room coffeemaker (or at the Starbuck's at SFC), since the Columbus can't spare the space for a breakfast room without losing a guest room, and most of the other breakfast joints I used to know are now either defunct or transmogrified into something hopelessly touristy. The last thing I want in the morning, if my vacation involves Disney theme parks (which would pretty much limit it to my visits to WDW) is to drag myself out of bed early to pay a large premium for a heavy breakfast that would slow me down. I limit my character dining to dinner, and maybe lunch. So how long will you be at Disneyland?
We got into the habit of the Minnie and Friends when my now-21 yo granddaughter was a baby. Even though the price has more than doubled; it's still the least expensive. We wouldn't bother if it weren't the whole family, but we do enjoy it. And yes, we have to walk around slowly and not ride Space Mountain for awhile after. These days I pass on the French toast and Mickey waffles and stick to one of their made-fresh omelets, sausage and fried potatoes. I tend to have protein for breakfast. A hardboiled egg will hold me until 1PM. Since our chickens are providing an endless supply of eggs; we have them in some form almost every morning, sometimes with meat.
We're going to be there for 5 days. Monday-Friday. President's Week would not be my choice for sure. But we have to go when those who have work and school can get time off.
Iamsally, I do sometimes look at DL video blogs to get my DL fix, and I’m sorry to say that I think the Jolly Holiday is currently closed. I hope I’m wrong and you’ll find it open- just giving you a heads up. Hope you have a great trip! If you’re over in DCA, I have to say that my favorite new (to me) food thing anywhere was the birria at Cocina Cucamonga. Messy but sooooo good. I also liked the ronto wraps in Galaxy’s Edge.
Thanks. My husband pointed that out to me today . I've got tomato soup, bread and cheese so I guess I'll just have to make my own. Tomorrow, tomorrow, we're leaving, tomorrow, It's only a daaaaay aaawaaaay!
We're here. It's been hectic but wonderful. Crowds have been manageable in the mornings and evenings. The afternoons we spend at the RV park swimming, eating and resting in a horizontal position.
