UK screenwriter asks a judge to block the release of "Cars 2" claiming the "Cars" franchise was stolen from ideas he discussed with Lucasfilm, specifically an executive named Jim Morris who joined Pixar in 2005.

EXCERPTS:
>>In Manderville's latest complaint, he points to a long list of similarities among the characters in each of the works. Both have characters named "Stanley" modeled after a Model T Ford.<<
In Cars, Stanley is a Stanley Steamer. Lizzie is the Model-T. Regardless, either name is generic.

>>Both have lead characters modeled after a "James Aston-Martin" sports car.<<
"James Aston-Martin?" Methinks they meant "James Bond's Aston-Martin." Regardless, general consensus is that Lightning is based on either the Corvette or the Viper (or elements of both). Lightning is NOT based on a British racing car.

>>Both feature broken down truck characters...<<
Check. But is it a tow truck?

>>...doctors as authority figures...<<
Check. And is said doctor-as-authority-figure also the town judge? AND a former racing legend?

>>...glitzy showgirl movie star females...<<
Ch... wait a minute. Glitzy movie star? In Radiator Springs? Not at all.

>>...Italians...<<
Ah. Case closed. Both movies feature Italians. Clearly, this is the Rosetta Stone of Cars. (Or would that be Rosetti Stone?)

>>...rich business cars past their prime...<<
OK, now it's just silly. There's no equivalent character in Cars.

But most of those similarities are a real stretch, so I don't see this going very far.
