Originally Posted By Elderp I just wanted to share with you my new Ebay selling rules. To give you some background I am selling a used laptop and the first time I sold it. The auction was ended by a very rude con artist. Thankfully, Ebay credited me back my listing fee but it was a big bummer because I lost of few days of valuable listing time. Anyhow, for my relisting I added these rules. What do you think? (this is really what I wrote in the auction by the way) "Ok, here are some extra rules for this auction. First of all I would like to appologize and say that 90% of the people viewing this auction would never attempt to do any of the things listed here below but this is the second time I have had to list this item because of knuckleheads trying to scam me out of this computer. 1) I do not accept money orders from Western Union or Money Gram. Now I know how reputable Western Union of Nigeria is but I figure with all the emails I get from people trying to use them they must be the most overworked Western Union Office on the planet and I just think those fine outstanding Nigerian Western Union workers didn't need me to add to their worries. It doesn't matter anyhow because I only ship to countries in which Ebay does business. 2) I only accept cashiers checks from US banks that are verifible by US authorities. I can only accept payment in US dollars. Now I know that the Royal Canadian Bank of Edmonston is sure to be a very reliable banking authority but the problem is no one in Canada seems to know where it is. Also if you attempt to pay with illegal monies I will be forced to prosecute you. You see, my local Sheriff has this thing about his citizens getting ripped off. I should know I work for him. 3) I do not accept third party payments and/or do not ship to third party addresses. I know Aunt Mirtle really wanted to buy this laptop for your birthday because it was something you always wanted and never got growing up. Have no fear!! Just tell Aunt Mirtle to buy it on her own and I will ship it to her address (so long as the postal office can verify it is a correct address) and then you can go to her address and pick it up in person. Think of the joy Aunt Mirtle will have as she watches you open up that special laptop you always wanted!! 4) I do not accept delayed payments. When the auction is over you are responsible for the amount due immediately. To that fine citizen who wrote to me from Louisiana I understand all about disasters. I am not blind to the fact that Hurricane Katrina devasted that area and that you need this laptop to start your business right away. I suggest you therefore make a petition to FEMA and perhaps they will give you a grant with which you can buy this laptop outright. Also, if you claim to be a Doctor please make sure you can spell 4 and 5 letter words (and I am not talking about the ones my Uncle Carlos taught me when he hit his hand with a hammer) I am not a post-graduate but it does look rather suspicious when a very learned man cannot spell very well. Although trust me, spelling isn't required for this auction. 5) I will not not ship this item till your payment has cleared. Now I know school has started allready and you are allready several weeks behind in your schoolwork. However, there is a great thing called Paypal that if you use it will verify your payment automatically and therefore greatly expedite the shipment of this laptop. Not to mention you can also pay for expedited shipping where your item will arrive even faster!! 6) You are responsible for all shipping charges including insurance. Consider this a deal because I am not even charging you for the box or the shipping materials. At the end of the auction I will send you an invoice using your shipping address (and it better be the same one you paid from) that will include shipping and insurance. I know insurance is lame but it is better for the both of us. 7) Have fun! I don't sell things on Ebay for a living. Most of the time I just buy stuff. If you have a question just ask I am more than happy to respond. Thank you for your interest in my laptop and have a great auction!!"

I've experienced one transaction that got tense for a little while (she sent me damaged goods) and I had one buyer who didn't pay for the LONGEST time. But all ended well in both cases. Elderp, if there were more than one of your type of computer for sale on eBay, I'd bid on yours based on your sense of humor.

I am amazed how many scams there are, you should have mentioned all those computer literate Nigerians who buy computers but are starving to death. Guess they want a wireless to talk to the South African bushman to find out what gourds they eat only once a week I am placing a bid but would be interested in any buy it now price you may consider. My bank is the Bank of Atlantis when my Power seller paypal account is not up to snuff!" My answer: "I've heard that the Bank of Atlantis is currently under-funded and under water, so I am no longer accepting payment from them. You may want to seek an audience from King Triton if your paypal account is not up to snuff. I however will still not ship until I've been paid! Seriously though, I've been burned on buy it now, so I'm sorry you'll have to wait the full length of the auction. I hope you can stand the suspense. "
