That is the highest for any film since Prisoner of Azkaban. Not that reviews would have matterered but I think it is quite an achievement.

I think they're very enjoyable, good movies. But they aren't great, and they aren't great adaptations. Someone who reads and doesn't like the books--now that is a mystery to me. I'd like to think I'm well-read - everything from history to armchair psychology to classics to post-modern lit like Pynchon and DeLilo. I never have had so much fun reading as when I discovered a new Harry Potter book. I read the first two right before the third came out, then I was that grown adult waiting in line at midnight for the next ones.

Interesting enough easily to hold experienced readers like ecdc and yet open enough to attract new- younger readers. \ I have read them all-- and attended pre-midnote affairs for new releases as well- and I am old- I went with my kids ( now 26 and 16) who love the books. I give all the credit in the world to JK for creating something to get kids to read- so so darned important. As for the movies I agree- without the book background some things become more hazy and sequences seem more disjointed. They are a valiant effort, but as the books got longer and more involved- many of them could have been 2 films. Overall though a good job. The Lotr trilogy did a great job ( especially in directors cuts)- but even there some major occurances and one major character were left out...

I see it very much beating the Dark Knight's weekend record of 158 million. It's going to drop the rest of the weekend but I see a gross of around 166 million.
