Once the 2Fer deal ends on Thursday, the ticket booths will begin selling a one day park hopper ticket for locals only that is 10 dollars more than the regular day ticket price. So, for an extra 10 bucks, you can park hop over to DCA whenever you want. They plan on offering this ticket through the summer, and to locals only under the same rules that the 2Fer tickets were sold for; certain zip codes in SoCal or Baja.

This is basically a $10 discount, and I doubt that it will become a big seller.

As an AP holder, park hopping is based on going on specific rides, then hopping to another park for other rides. There is no attempt at seeing the whole park.

    Avoid it.

I think it's pretty obvious - they want to be able to get an extra incremental amount out of the casual single-day visitors to DL in the hopes that they'll spring for it to check out some of what DCA has to offer even though they may have come to the resort to visit DL. For the past few months, they've been effectively offering this as a $20 add-on to a DL ticket ($59 for single-park ticket, or $79 for single-day park hopper), but apparently they must feel that locals think that $20 is too much to pay for a single day DCA add-on (since if enough people were already taking advantage of the $20 offer, there'd be no reason to offer a discount).

They could be very successful with such an offer: maybe a lot of people that come to the resort for a day at DL will pay $10 more to check out the new Monsters Inc attraction (which is heavily promoted between the parking garage and the ticket booths) and perhaps ride Soarin' again. This is exactly the type of ticketing promotion and changes to DCA that may allow them to work their way out of their current situation. It seems to me that a great deal of thought has been put into this, and I think it's paid off.

Who said anyone is trying to do that?

Which is what the people who buy these tickets will do.

Since Disneyland is more than a full day worth at the lower price, and all the 50th stuff going on, I doubt that many locals we pay the extra money, and decide to just go to Disneyland instead.

The other reason is for advertising locally, $10 off a one day ParkHopper. While they won't quote the actual price, that is still $69 a day, and a lot of folks will have sticker shock, and either go home, or opt for the lower Disneyland only ticket.

Other theme parks will be advertising specials in the area. Six Flags is trying to raise its price, and will feature the new Tatsu, but Universal will more than likely advertise their new Tour featuring Whoopi and the new Fast and Furious segment, and should offer a discount coupon attached to a SoCal location (Grocery or Restaurant). Knott's will continue promoting they are the "Real Deal" and that you will find Adult admissions around $30 with discount.

I doubt that many SoCal folks will be driven by the discount. More than likely, you will see more folks look at the AP program, or specials like what is offered at Costco in the Play4Days tickets, which will more than likely have guests use 3 days at DL, and one at DCA.

So I think the discount is just to have a discount, and try and get a few more bucks out of some folks, and won't be a big driver of attendance.

This is the main reason for people to refuse the offer. I just think the price is too high.

There is absolutely no reason for people to think there is added value in the park hopper if they think the cumulative price is extremely high. There needs to be another incentive.

People may think the park hopping wastes time especially if they only have one day to experience the whole thing.

The 2Fer is great because people get two parks in two days for the price of one. There needs to be an similar incentive for the add-on price.

How about you get an one day park hopper for $10 more with free 50th Anniversary souvenir program.

That's my plan and then see if I'm allowed to upgrade it to a same-price socal select AP. If not, then I'll add parking.

I mean, the drive is long enough that they can't just pop over on a whim, but not so distant that they'd have to spend the night.
