    1) I recently washed in hot water my favorite pair of cotton khacki pants. It wasn't until I pulled them from the dryer that I noticed a few scattered reddish stains on the front of one of the legs. Hmmmmm. I don't usually come into contact with stuff that doesn't wash out. But sometimes our washer puts rust stains on things. No biggie. I hit the stains with a rust-removing product that always works amazingly well and washed them again. But no change in the stains. Then I realized that I had torn one of my cuticles a couple days ago. So now I'm thinking that I probably got blood on my pants without noticing it at the time.

Ordinarily, blood stains are not a problem. I pre-treat and wash in ice-cold water. But this one has already been through a hot-water wash, a drying cycle, and a warm-water wash. Can these khackis be saved?!

    2) Last night I found out that I could go to the big company Halloween party with 45 minutes notice. So my "costume" consisted of a fabulous eye make-up job that one of my friends at MAC applied. She used lots of eye shadow and also some kind of eyeliner. It's black, and was applied liberally with a paint-type brush.

Morning after... Man, that eye-liner doesn't want to come off! Actually, the effect is kind of cool today, but I want it to be pretty not-noticeable tomorrow. Will it wash off by then? Do I have at home any common household solutions that will strip it off?

    Thanking you in advance --

But honestly, you can just let it wear off naturally so I would go with the dramatic look for a few days.

I'm currently trying the hydrogen peroxide followed by shampoo. If that doesn't work, time to dig under the kitchen sink. We may have some Oxyclean down there.

Thanks for the eyeliner tips, too. I probably should pick up some make-up remover, but really don't need to go out for anything else today, and am enjoying being home on a beautiful fall afternoon. ajsmommy, thanks for the baby shampoo suggestion! I do have some of that here and will try it later. And if that doesn't work... I guess I will just be a bit more dramatic for a day.

Hope this product might be helpful.

Also, Oxyclean has a new spray for stains that is easier to use.

I ditto all of the above; especially the vaseline for makeup removal from ajsmommy.

Okay, here's a gross-out remedy. Spit, or sucking on the stain will usually get out blood stains before you start treating with other products.

Told you it was gross. I'm ashamed to report that I've used this technique successfully. But I've also used my kids' pee to discourage deer from visiting my gardens, so what do you expect :-o

(I would, however, caution people not to suck on blood from a stranger. If that situation happens, just pre-treat and wash in cold water. Drop a couple trays of ice cubes into the wash water.)

The results are in! On my 100% cotton khacki's with bloods stains that had been "set" with heat:

Shout!: Nope. No noticeable improvement whatsoever.
Iron Out: No change. (This was what convinced me it was a biologic stain. If it's a rust stain, it will disappear before your eyes when you put this stuff on it.)
    Hydrogen peroxide: Nada.
Cheap shampoo: Hmmmmm. Did this fade the stains? Maybe it was just the lighting.
Zout: Mmmmmmmmmm... Was there a difference? I think the stain changed to more of a an orange than a maroon.
OxiClean: We have a winner!!! Wow! If it weren't for your suggestions, I would have given up. But I found a tub of this powder under the sink, whipped up an extra-strength mixture, soaked the stains, went out to dinner, returned home, and... voila! I can't see where the blood was! Yea, OxiClean!

Thank you, everyone, for all your suggestions!

    And as regards the eyes...

When I look in the mirror, it reminds me of the drawing in the poster for the stage play of "Rocky Horror" or the look of the Emcee in Cabaret. Very cool -- I'm liking it! But I'll try the Johnson's Baby Shampoo later.

    OMG -- how beautiful!

Your generous offer touched me so deeply that I cried so hard that the eyeliner was washed away!

Problem solved! I can show up at work tomorrow without fear of rebuke!

Once again you've moved in weird and wonderous ways, jdub!

Ha, ha. Very funny. Here I am trying to give you helpful hints and you make fun of me. See if I'll share any of my gross ones again.

You're just lucky the Witches didn't chime in here with a couple of their brews!
