I made it through the night, but went to the ER this morning at 9:30. I just got home around 3:45 pm. Xrays were clear, but the doc suspects ligament damage. I am in a brace and on crutches. I have to make an appt with the orthopedic surgeon... I don't want to have to cancel our trip, but I don't see myself being able to walk on crutches around DL for 2 days. Anybody ever done it??? Any suggestions???

Originally Posted By SierraAloha MouseketeerMommy, I agree with hammertime. Rent your wheelchair from an outside source. The Disneyland wheelchairs are okay, but they don't allow you to take it outside the front gates, which can make getting to the car/hotel a long and exhausting journey/ordeal. Plus, an outside source would be cheaper and no daily deposit(though I am not sure you have to leave a deposit for a regular wheelchair..I know you have to with an ECV) As for the Guest Assistance Pass...it's a special pass for disabled guests that allows them to bypass certain queue elements. Because I have pins in both ankles and arthritis from the pins and walk with a cane, I get a Special Assistance Pass that excludes me from having to climb stairs. It covers me and up to five others, in my party. With a wheelchair, though, you may not need a Special Assistance Pass. Most of the rides are wheelchair accessable to specific points. You can download the Guests with Disabilities Guidebook from Disneyland.com and that will provide you with everything you need to know about wheelchairing around Disneyland. Let me warn you, from my experience with traveling with wheelchair bound companions in the past, during especially crowded times of the year....People are not the least bit careful or understanding with a wheelie....It can get tedious...be patient and make sure you have a competent pilot and you'll do fine.... We stayed at the Park Vue, and I was able to just leave it in their locked office at night to charge. I would pick it up in the morning and head into the park. I had ankle surgery about 6 weeks ago and while I could walk some, I knew there was no way I could do 6 days in the park. I have to say, using the ECV was awesome! It completely saved my trip! In crowded parts of the park (New Orleans Square) or while waiting for fireworks it took more patience, but it was completely worth it. In some places, like Fantasyland, I would just park it in the general vicinity and walk to each ride. It was really helpful on Space Mountain as well, as we were able to enter through the exit and not have to manuever the long queue. I would just ask the cast member at each ride. I can't recommend it enough. I had no pain issues and I was able to thoroughly enjoy my trip...and my ankle thanked me as well! My 7 year old LOVED hitching a ride on the late nights out of the park as well. Good luck!

There'll be intense crowds who are busy and rude but it can ease if your family helps create a path through to where you're headed. Best wishes for a merry and memorable trip!

I actually asked around here about the advantages/disadvantages of having a wheelchair or ECV in DL and the overwhelming vote was to stick with the walking boot. The boot cost an extra $60 at the hospital but it was worth every single penny and then some!

The only thing is watching out for other inconsiderate people. On our flight, the attendant hit my knee 5 times with a galley door, we were in the first row. And actually had my foot run over by some FOP's in electric rental chairs at EPCOT. But most all Disney and Universal employees were great making sure I was ok going through the lines and getting into the ride vehicles. And never once had to wait for my crutches at unload, CM's always had them ready. Even at rides like RnRC and SM where the unload is at a different place than load.

We also got priority seating at shows which was so nice. If you rent a chair at DLR they run an authorization on your credit card and hold your photo ID until you return the chair. I didn't need the chair after leaving the park but I can see where it would be needed in your situation. In no way should you worry about not having fun on your trip...you will have a super time!!!
