European cities are having the top ranks in the study.

And I agree, despite the eurozone issues currently, I think the kids would enjoy a better quality of life growing up in Europe. Hmmm, they haven't been to Austria yet ,maybe after Italy ,we will pay a visit.

Tasha, that is still cheap by European standards. A 150 sq m flat in London is about $600k Canadian. A house the size of mine - 350 sq m is worth $250k Canadian, in London the same size place would be $1.4m Canadian.

I know, I just wanted to warn you so that you will not be disappointed.

There are a lot of great museums throughout the country. For example in my hometown you can do a tour through a working Steel Plant. Unfortunately over here, unlike in the UK, you have to pay for the entrance. Kids under a certain age are most of the time free.

The steel Plant is not Salzburg, it's in Linz: <a href="http://www.voestalpine-stahlwelt.at/en/Visitors-Service/Plant-Tour/General" target="_blank">http://www.voestalpine-stahlwe.../General</a>

Yes, Vienna is incredible to visit and so is Prague. Munich and Salzburg and Heidelberg and Luxembourg too, for me. Definitely not Frankfurt or Dusseldorf. I prefer Bern to Zurich and Lucerne.

I have never done any Sound of Music stuff in Salzburg though because all the people who live there promote Mozart so heavily (and I was overruled). Some of the people IN SALZBURG, didn't know what we were talking about when we mentioned The Sound of Music.

My husband didn't know what the Eagle's Nest was either. I just read that it is most visited by anglophones. I preferred to get better views elsewhere, but I watched a documentary on it once.

Most people still don't know about SoM, but it's getting better. Honestly I didn't know about it either until we watched the movie with our friends in the US.

What do you mean with curfews? You can go out as long as you want in Vienna. But maybe I've just found the wrong translation for that word.

Still too cold overall for me in Vienna, but it is a wonderful place with lots to see.

The Eagle's Nest was Hitler's home above Berchtesgaden.

Oh yeah, it can be very cold during winter.

Honestly I can't imagine that there have been curfews in Vienna. We never had any problems staying out until the early morning, even as teenagers.

I for myself wouldn't want to live in the US until being 21. I still find it strange that you are allowed to vote at the age of 18, but not allowed to drink alcohol.

When I spent a semester in Ohio, I was 22 and enjoyed living over there, except for the lack of public health care. I didn't like that system in the US and prefere our health care system (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXvDSGYtHFw" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...DSGYtHFw</a>)

You and me both. Which is why Vancouver is an appealing option if we ever returned to the new world.
