As we crossed the street the family behind us criticized us (in English accents) for waving the flag.(My mother and grandmother moved here from England so this was particularly hurtful) We allowed their rights to freedom of speech as we continued to wave our flags without comment. And entered DCA thru the Grand Californian Hotel hoping we would not see them later! Thru-out the day we slowly realized nothing special was going on in DCA for the 4th. Not many people even wearing red,white&blue... So I am home now and feel sad about this. On the Southwest flight home I was very happy to see a special article in their Spirit Magazine about immigrants becoming citizens of the United States. It also included a sample Citizenship Test. I am embarrased to admit I could not answer some of the ?s...I have automatic respect for any individual that can speak more than one language and I consider "computer" a language. So when I speak to the customer service representatives on the phone that I know are in a foreign country and they can speak english with a strange accent and can solve all my computer problems I have respect for them because they technically know 3 languages. I hope they fulfil their hopes and dreams someday. Maybe they have more of a desire to live in the U.S. than we who take this for granted. Anyway I wish everybody a belated Happy Fourth of July!

Also had occasion to wear my red, white and blue addidas over the week-end. There was a lot of "visible" patriotism at the various gatherings around Orange County on the 3rd and 4th. I love Brits and think most of them love America, but there are probably some who feel our day of celebration is sort of a day of defeat for them. Continue to be proud of our flag and I will be there with you.

I will say I enjoyed the Glowfest pre-show and the use of different ethnic music and dance. When I am at WDW all of the foreigners seem to wear more intense colors and glowfest makees me want to start wearing NEON! Yes it all was so much fun and a lot of new things to do at DL and DCA and DD.

I also went to the new selection in the Blue Cellar and overheard Mr. Iger's words as it replayed. I loved that he showed fun in the sound of his voice and has made me re-think my pre-conceived notion of him. So he is really a Disney lover/child at heart too!

Disneyland itself has merchandise featuring American colors (e.g. red/white/blue Mickey Mouse ears, T-shirts with Mickey standing in front of the American flag and many more items). A few of these item can be even be found at the LP Store page on this website. And, there's American flags located throughout Disneyland park, with an official flag lowering ceremony held before dusk in Town Square (at the flagpole near the "Walt Disney Story with Abraham Lincoln" attraction and the train station steps). Do note that there are some foreign tour group leaders who wave a small foreign flag (stapled to a tall stick) to keep track of their group while visiting Disneyland. While you don't need to be waving a tall stick at Disneyland, because it could be obtrusive to other guests, feel free to wave your personal sized American flag, wear patriotic clothing or lapel pin/trading pin, or wear a USA hat or red/white/blue hair adornment like hair ribbons or barrettes.

I am wondering if the fireworks show at DL was shorter this year for the 4th. Watching it from DCA with no music made it seemed really short perhaps.?.
