Basically, Disney has taken a few original Mickey Mouse shorts and abridged and re-dubbed them. So, they have Mickey's new voice, and new music replicating the original. Why bother? What's wrong with showing the original short in it's un-edited form? This seems like such a waste to me, and the new sounds don't mesh with the original animation. The SFX quality is not nearly as good as the original either.

    >>For kids and adults, Disney Have-A-Laugh is a new companywide initiative that will showcase the rich library of original Mickey cartoon shorts across a variety of formats and platforms, including television, online and DVD starting this fall. The Mickey of "Have a Laugh" is young, funny, a bit mischievous, and contemporary. DCP will reflect the humor and fun from these Mickey moments into products for kids that will incorporate editorial, fun designs and fresh images.<<

My babelfish translates that into "those old cartoons that that Walt What's-his-name guy made just aren't good enough for today's kids, so we've spent an hour or two in a small digital sound studio and improved them tremendously. You're welcome."

Please, Disney, punch us again! And again! And again! Harder!

Why can't they create something new with Mickey to showcase his "newfound" (1928) personality? Oh, that's right, they can't be bothered actually creating something new and origianl...

You mean like Lorenzo? Glago's Guest? How to Hook Up Your Home Theater? Destino?

Every one of those projects lost money, and DVD sales were terrible.

Some might say that was because they didn't bother actually releasing them on DVD, but obviously that's just fanboy ignorance.

    ugh.

I love that whoever green lighted this project doesn't get that the cartoons can stand on their own merit.

No, no, no....better to add a 25 year old song to a 75 year old cartoon.

    Bizarre.

You just don't understand how relevant and contemporary Queen is to today's kids!

I don't know why they don't have, say, a 30 minute show on Disney Channel that is a showcase for new animators, or a workshop for experimental animated shorts. Give actual cartoonists the chance to come up with their own 7 minute short. And then eventually these could be sold on DVD in collections.

(I tried experimental animated shorts in college. Caused chaffing.)

I think it would be more interesting than the 50th showing of an episode of Hannah Montana. (Probably nowhere as profitable in the short term, but more interesting.)

Yes, but that wasn't made for the "Have a Laugh" series. It's a genuine theatrical cartoon, with a soundtrack recent enough that it doesn't need "improving."

Aw, jeez, don't give them any ideas!
