There may have been a 2nd episode last week, but I missed that. This week the show moved to it's permanent slot on Monday's at 9. So far we've learned about how John became immortal, that he was a Civil War surgeon, and a promenent furniture maker in the early 20th century. The stories kind of interconnect with his solving murders. I don't know how long the plots can keep involving his previous lives before it gets boring or ridiculous but so far the show has been entertaining.

Since it's a mid-season replacement and would have had production stopped during the writers' strike, I don't know what sort of future it has. All of those mid-season shows have a definite disadvantage this year in finding an audience and getting picked up for next season. Like you stated, I'll be interested to see where they can go with the story.

(In Raines, Jeff Goldblum, a San Fransisco homocide detective, would imagine seeing and speaking to the dead people who's murder he's investigating. It was just his though process, and the dead would go through transformations as he worked out the clues.) While the premise is not exactly the same, you see Amsterdam working out the clues to the murder while we see how it's connected to his past lives. I hope the show continues, past it's initial run. It has potential, as long as they keep it from becoming silly with his having run-ins with famous people of the different times.

I think Jeff Goldblum was great in that show. I am so disappointed it did not come back. New Amsterdam is ok? I would like it better if they did not have the 'Must find true love so I can die,' crap. It is just weird. There has to be something bettr than that.
