Earlier this year, I saw "Eragon." I was blown away by how good it looked on the screen. Then I got bored. Boring story, with characters I mostly didn't care about. Beautiful, though.

So, here are the questions for you:

    1. Is it possible for good visual effects or animation to redeem a bad story? I'd be curious to hear of an example--I can't think of any right now, but that's not to say they don't exist.

    2. Conversely, is it possible for the look of a movie to be so bad that it ruins an otherwise good story? Again, I can't think of an example.

    3. In the end, how much does it matter what a movie looks like? Is it really all about the story?

So although I disagree about the look of Meet the Robinsons. I would have to say... Yes in some cases looks definately matter.

Well if you look at the Star Wars prequels(which I loved) there were some problems with the story, but hey it's Star Wars.

I can't think of anything recently. I did have trouble watching the effects for Ghostbusters, but realized when they were made.

The story matters, but if it looks good that's icing on the cake.

We have a winner. I actually enjoyed some of Bakshi's stuff, but his LotR was pretty awful.

That's my feeling, too. I think it's one of those 80-20 things.
