The Fred Meyer in Grants Pass is generally cheaper than regular gas stations. In Redding, I usually take the Hilltop mall exit, turn left, and buy from the cheapie gas station across from the Toys R us.

After Santa Nella you are about to enter the Great Central Valley, hours and hours of farm land, with no real towns along the interstate. There will be gas every so often but it will be at scalp me prices. I forget exactly where the fill up place is comming back in the other directin, but on your way there pay attention to where they start actually advertising prices, probably about Buttonwillow, near Bakersfield.

We have a 03 Taurus and get about 400ml to the tank, 14 to 15gal tank. I usually gas up in Cottage Grove then Medford, Redding, stay the night in Woodland and gas up there. Funny Andersons Pea Soup was brought up cause that's one of the places we stop on that looooooonnnggggg dullllllll part of the CA drive. I don't have a Costco card but I do have a Safeway club card that works at Vons as well. I just paid $2.79 so I'm hopping it will at least stay there if not go lower.

Looking at a map you can see if you will need gas before that, probably not, but if so I would gas up in Lathrop it's running about $2.75 off highway 5 there, according to the gasbuddy web site. The other places that are usually pretty fair priced are buttonwillow, and then there is a Pilot station after the grapevine in Castaic on the other side of the freeway. I usually get gas there on the way home if I have been driving around LA very much (I have a 44 gal Diesel tank so if I just go there and back I start in Westley at the truck stop and can get back to Westley before I need Diesel again!!) Drive safe....

I don't think it effects that the short term I believe it has more long term negative effects on your engine. Who really knows at this point. I just choose to stay away from them as there isn't really a difference in price for us here.

Anyhoo, we usually stop in Santa Nella for gas on the way back (even though we live just an hour north)so I know we've filled up with Rotten Robbie before. Must do research on that one;0).

We once noted a $.30 difference from the bottom of the GV to the other side- unbelievable!

Gottaluv- I must not be too observant- where are they putting in a Rotten Robbie?
