I would assume so. I don't really quite get the appeal of that show. Yeah, it's a good idea to get sexual predators off the streets, but is it necessary to build a show around catching them? Is there really a humiliation factor that this show is supposed to have that will prevent some guys from doing it, or is the show just "entertainment?"

I think part of it is definitely the humiliation factor and the sensationalism, but I think it's primarily for info-tainment to let people know how vulnerable their kids are. These guys get takers for their set-up within minutes of beginning the sting. It's disgusting.

Like I said, I live outside the states, I never seen it but heard about it and I agree with others it sounds like its for entertainment just as much as education. But it tells us as popular as this show supposedly is, these guys KEEP falling for it over an over again and are willing to sacrifice their jobs, families and reputation over it, so it tells you these people serious problems and something should be done. Obviously, its a sickness. Just like you throw a drug addict in jail for a few weeks and months and expect them to be 'reformed' it obviously is recognized for these people.

I'm curious to know what kind of help or therapy do they get when they are caught?

Typically none. They go to prison.

I think most experts (at least what little I've read) agree that by the time it's gotten to the "acting out" stage, it's well beyond therapy or rehabilitation. Sex offenders and serial killers have similar MOs; they start fantasizing at first. They do this for years and years, to the point that it consumes them. They literally cannot walk down the street passing women or children and have normal thoughts. And that's why so many people say that by the time they actually take the steps to do something about it, it's too late to help them because over the years they've warped themselves so much. It's very said and disturbing, all at once. That's not to say when they do get out, they can't function. Many of them do and don't become repeat offenders. But chances are it's out of a fear of getting caught and returning to prison, not because they're "cured."

Bear in mind, this show (I've never seen a full episode but have seen snippets here and there) seems to feature men meeting 13-14 year old boys or girls. They aren't meeting a 17 1/2 year old that looks like she's 22. So these guys would seem to fit the category of deviant behavior, not just someone who's stupid.

I recommend John Douglas's books if someone's interested in the topic of criminal behavior. He's the former FBI agent that started the criminal profiling division. Jack Crawford in the Hannibal Lecter books is based on him. His first book (and probably still the best) is Mindhunter, others are all on Amazon.

In western world, people look at child molestation worse than murder sometimes. Its even sadder when they can't get help for it. They are forever shunned by society and they can't seem to have a normal life because they are always consumed by it.

I mean, I'm a Disney nut, but I can turn it off if I had to...and its not exactly something people shun ;).

LOL sorry BeautysBeast, but in all honesty, judging by the first post, there wasn't much of a joke or anything for that matter to really go on ;). At least this thread has substance now :).

No I certainly agree, they definitely need to be punished regardless, I just wish there something more that can be done too. Actually, I looked at Fivebear Predator link and went out checked out other sites on the show including NBC and its really interesting and to know that everyone from teachers to clergymen to homeland security people have been caught. That is REALLY scary and its true these are people living normal lives, married, with families, tax payers, but yet have this sick need to be with 12 and 13 year old boys. Obviously I can't understand it, but its amazing how so many of them managed on one hand to carve out a regualar, normal existance while the entire time preying on kids and NO ONE knows about it!!

I don't know, I just feel sorry for them. But naturally, I feel 100 times worst for the kids who have to go through it. One only needs to look at the recent L.A. catholic church scandel and the $600 million payout to the sexual abuse of all those kids. Honestly, how does these things just keep happening??

I see no humor in any of this.
