Times to avoid in Nov if you don't like crowds are Veteran's day (and usually the preceeding week-end) and Thanksgiving week.

The Christmas parade starts on a Friday so we are there from Sunday to Saturday. All of the decorations are up, you get to see Santa, get the holiday photo for the Christmas card, see the parade and watch the fireworks. Only thing I have found that we seem to miss--making of the candy canes.
