How exactly does that come off?
I always liked POTC because it sort of took you back to another place and time.
Is seeing the face of some contemporary actor at all disconcerting?
The cool thing about Disneyland (for me) is the chance to leave the outside world where it belongs...outside.
When I'm riding POTC I don't necessarily think I'd want to be reminded of the outside world...seeing the face of a contemporary actor.
    Any thoughts?

Seeing Johnny Depp up there reminds me of the big blockbuster, moneymaking movies.
These new changes do have a negative affect on my perception and enjoyment, and indeed remind me of influences and characters not intended by the original designers.

Over all I think that they did a nice job adding him.

On a side note my friend LOVES the new additons.

But then again, I'm in love with Captain Jack.

    It's your choice.

I like the additions too, they are subtle and, in my opinion, don't really change the overall Pirates experience.

I don´t think they should have mixed POTC ride and POTC movie. I know the movie is based on the actual ride BUT I guess I´m just a bit touchy about the rides being changed and updated. I love to get on POTC and see all my favorite pirates that have been there for ages. IMO, Jack Sparrow is a modern concept/pirate that just doesn´t fit into the ride as subtle as these changes may be.

As "old-timers" I find that we have developed a certain resistance to DL changes. Walt himself said, "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." I often have to remind myself of that. For me, so much of the attraction of DL is that it lets me relive a little of my youth. I'm not always happy with the way that Disney seems to be "theming" attractions to what ever is currently popular as I feel this also limits the interest lifespan of that attraction. I also realize that Disney needs to direct a certain amount of the focus to the current market. Tom Sawyer's Island would be a good example. So few young people today have read the classics and have no idea who Tom Sawyer is. Of course I miss the island the way it was but I also see a lot of guests over there having fun.

It just saddens me when an old DL attraction is retouched to meet changing interests. I´m not against new attractions, I just hate it when the old ones are messed with!! :(

And if we talk about Tom Sawyer island, well now there´s a major refurb that upset me beyond words. I absolutely LOVED TSI! I actually used to think it was Sawyer and Finn´s island! I never visited without taking an hour off to go run around or to simply take in the setting.

Anyway, I´m ranting and also getting off the subject. And I have to admit I am starting to sound like my father, grumbling away about all the changes going on around him. >:O

I don't want them to, and I'm sure there'd be a huge uprising of DL regulars if they tried, but I wouldn't put it past them to mention it.
