Anyhow, this interview today was round two for this company and most of it was just me chatting with one of the founders, then the HR lady, then the potential future manager about myself and what I like. Good news is, their ad had said they want someone who sees the glass as half full and I was in super happy sunshiney mode since I was getting to talk about me, my love of music, my love of Disney, and my love of books. Anyhow, I found it encouraging that they had me fill out an application. Now I just have to hope that they choose me and I get that ever-wonderful call letting me know they want me and when and where I need to show up for the requisite pre-employment drug screening that I'm expecting. So, any good vibes you want to send my way that I get this job would be very much appreciated - while I didn't start looking for work until February, it's been rough going having gotten one job, then BOOM - LAYOFF after about 5 weeks. This company, unlike that one, has been around for 12+ years and seems like a great place with a lot of really nice folks. Oh, and they go bowling as an offsite kinda thing on occasion! Nifty! Anyhoo, that's enough yammering on my part now, I think.

She has received several job offers, but nothing really suitable. One place was 100% commission... no base or "draw" even during the training period. She would have not made a dime until she started selling. At another place the pay would have been quite good, but all employees were hired as independent contractors. That meant no benefits, no paid vacation or sick leave, and she would have not even been eligible for unemployment compensation if for whatever reason things did not work out. Ann recently was schedule to give a PowerPoint presentation as part of a second interview at a local college she would really like to work for. One of the hiring authorities was a person Ann had previously worked with for several years at another university. Unfortunately, the night before the presentation Ann's father died in the hospital at 11 PM... she got very little sleep that night. But she was determined this was an opportunity she did not want to let slip by and had worked very hard on her presentation. She decided she would do the presentation as scheduled. Se called the former co-worker on her way in to let her know of the situation and to let them know that she may arrive about 5 minutes late. She was told not do to it... that she needed to spend time with her family. They said they would be doing another round of hiring in August, and that she would be scheduled to given her presentation then. It has been a tough couple of weeks. Ann's father died just over two weeks ago. Last Monday her mother was hospitalized with chest pains. An angiogram showed that she had 70-80% blockage in two arteries. The options were discussed and they decided that bypass surgery on an 81-year-old with kidney problems would be too dangerous. So she has been scheduled to have two stents placed tomorrow. Of course we all pray that the procedure will be successful. Like you, my Ann is a "glass half full" kind of person, and we hope for the best on all fronts. I'm really not sure where she gets the strength to go through all this. I truly wish nothing but the best for you, and am sorry to have intruded on your thread. I just wanted to let you know that I not only sympathize, but that I truly empathize with your situation.
