While I don't nessecarily think the film is a bad thing, I'm very surprised that it's coming back after not being mentioned for so long. I guess that's what happens when you have a series of Stuio heads that don't greenlight anything new, and Iger demanding that every single release be a big-budget extravaganza (which this will assuredly be)

While I definitely think there's a lot of interesting stuff that could be done with a 20K movie (especially since the internal conflict doesn't really lend itself to a ton of CGI), I'm a little worried about what they might be spending it all on.

As for the accents, I bet they'll import most/all of the actors with speaking rolls, or have Aussies that can do an American accent

The whole "Captain Nemo" franchise is one that has so many possibilities given the mix of a supertechnology placed in the 1800's in the hands of a brilliant but dissadent antihero.

Let's hope Disney is willing to retain their original Harper Goff Nautilus submarine and perhaps expand on their DisneySea JTTCOTE concept - you could get some amazing stories and effects out of such material.

Thus, it will be the first thing to go.

Fincher's vision for the movie was allegedly north of $300m hence why it has been on imposed hiatus to try and find a cheaper way to make it. Thankfully they aren't tied to a shooting schedule like The Lone Ranger was so hopefully they can keep the elements that Fincher wants.

Thankfully the government can't impose Australian actors on Disney - otherwise I could see the mumbling and incomprehensible Russell Crowe as Nemo.

Oz has really struggled to attract big budget movies to their studios - The Great Gatsby was made there but that was funded by Village Roadshow who also own the studios. Fox opted to make The Wolverine down under to save on production costs (and so Huge Action could stay home with his wife).

That is a staggeringly inappropriate amount of money. It's a damn movie.

I remember when they shut down Lone Ranger because they were asking for $270m or something. Hollywood is getting ridiculous. There's too much pressure on a movie to have to make that kind of money back, and it has trickled down to effect everything from ticket prices to concessions to dvd sales.

They are contributing to their own demise with these kinds of budgets.

I'm worried that if they go through with this, the '54 film will be aged and, thus, forever under-appriciated.
