Finally, before I took him to the airport, he asked me if we could get back together. I knew if I said yes, we would end up married.

    :) I said yes.

KJ and I met online on Christmas Day 1994. In the imediate days following Christmas we became very close, speaking online and on the phone. During one of our conversations KJ let me know that KJ would be attending a New Years Eve party and had a date. I knew that if I liked KJ I would have to move fast! LOL

So I thought to myself. Your a Social Worker, what would a Social Worker do?

1: Start with food to meet the others safety and security needs. Well this wasn't going to happen since I was in Rhode Island and KJ was in Atlanta.
So one to step 2: Start Developementally Low. While I was over at my parents home I grabbed the children's story book, The Little Brown Puppy. Now I had never read this book mind you. So that night I read KJ ( over the phone ) the book. The story is about a little brown puppy that is tried of being alone. All around him the puppy sees the other animals raising familys and finding a place to belong. So he looks far and wide but still can't find anyone to be with. Finally one night he's about to give up and he wishes on a star to find someone to spend the rest of his life with. The next day a wise grey squirel tells the puppy that he should go to a certain field in town and he will find someone who is looking for a puppy. So the puppy goes to the field and there is a boy who has been looking for a puppy.

Once I finished reading that story to KJ, KJ responded and said "If your looking for a boy, I'm looking for a puppy". I had to think REAL fast how to respond to that statement with something that wasn't "weird". So I immediately said "I'm looking for someone else who wishes on stars".

At this point we had never met and we didn't even know what each other looked like. KJ said "I don't care what you look like. I know I'm in love with you".

We exchanged photos and yes they were decent photos. I arranged to come down for a weekend the following January. At the end of the weekend KJ dropped me off at the airport. KJ couldn't even say good-bye. It was a 2 hour flight back to Rhode Island and I sobbed the entire way home. And I knew I was in love. I visited again over spring break. Graduate School ended on May 4th, 1995 and on May 5th at 8:00 am I was on the road for Atlanta. We have been together ever since. And yes we both still wishing on stars.

My advise to anyone out there is keep wishing on stars and listen to the wise grey squirrels in life!

The only person I have been in love with is my husband. A friend of mine from high school worked with him and thought we were a lot alike. We lived in different states and started out as friends, going to concerts together, writing letters almost everyday. One weekend my son and I came up to go to a show with him. We spent the weekend together, still thinking we were friends. After getting home, about midweek I realized that I was falling for him. So, I wrote him a long letter. I was terrified when I sent it to him. The funny thing is that he felt the same way and wrote it in a letter and sent it on the same day that I sent mine.

    Ugh, so sappy. ;-)

We had less and less in common over the years, but it was hard to break the habit of being together. Also, when all your friends are getting married you think you will die of you don't. I'm so glad that we didn't. He went off to the seminary (although later he left and got married) and I went on with my life...

The night we broke up officially (my birthday - great timing) we went to a play at Ford's Theater. I ran into an old friend I'd known from a college theater class. Hadn't seen him in years. He told me he was doing a play in May (this was March) and I should come and see him. So I did. Through him I met my first husband...the first love of my life.

Through my first husband I met DlandDug. They had gone to college together and stayed in touch over the years and miles. I knew him for 15 years before my husband died and we were already very good friends. That friendship then blossomed into probably the most complete and joy-bearing love I could ever imagine. So I'm definitely in love "for keeps."

I never told my parents how we met. I have told several siblings that story. So now everyone here knows too. Oh and we still have that book.

I was devastated. I thought I was going to throw up right then and there. I bought the magazine. I felt so betrayed. My heart was broken. I got in the car and started to read the article. Duh. It was a story about how when he was something like six years old, he and a neighbor girl ran away to get married but came home later in the day because they were hungry for lunch.
