I don't know exactly where the Treehouse dock is, but I'm pretty sure it's in the "river" and not the open lake, meaning they had gone upstream into the tight river at high speed. Very bad idea.

I grew up on boats, and know how to pilot one safely. But it's really amazing to see teenage kids zipping around, turning blindly, aiming right at you and then turning at the last second, etc. As you said, it's surprising that there aren't more accidents on the Disney waters.
